Hey I found this in my garden. I know it's worth sum, but I was wondering how much since the condition it's in. Thanks

Welcome, and a very nice find,
    The key date.
    Value: Hard to say.
    Opinions, anyone?

Oh, maybe $136.75 in the condition it's in now. Great Find. :)

Would you pay that much considering the environmental problems?

    I don't have one and I wouldn't break $50 for it.
    Perhaps less.

Looks like it's got some good details and in the condition it's in a cleaning wouldn't diminish the value that much. It might even increase the value if the crust would just pop-off. A good boiling, then 400º - 450º oven heat, followed by cold (ice water) imersion would losen some of that crud up.

okay, it is obvious that you guys have never tried to 'restore' a V-nickel that was buried.
Metal detectorists do it, at least try to do it.
I have a number of them, and it ain't gonna get any better than that.

You're the expert there so I won't argue with that. :) It that's as good as she is gonna get that's as good one can expect.

    Ben:
Not that I am an expert, but-- I have a tone of these, and Buffalos, and other mystery stuff.
Copper can be soaked in olive oil and the crud will be removed, but the pitting still stays there.

You should see what a shield nickel looks like! If you can figure out what that round disc is!

You've got vastly more experience MDing than me so you're the expert IMHO. :D Heck I have a hard time even finding nickels when compared to other coins.

What machine are you using, currently have the White's DFX.
Previously the XLT (I still have one).

I prefer Whites machines but there are a lot of good ones.

I've got a Garrett GTI 2500 now. I used to have a Treasure Ace 300 and it was a pretty good machine too for the money.

I'd say $200 for it, to the right person. Otherwise...

Wow! I for one don't mind a bit of damage. I also don't have that date. But I wouldn't go over 150 or so for it, and preferably right around 100. Of course, it could probably be restored a bit. But that's additional labor and whatnot that, if doing myself, I don't want to pay for. :-D

I like it in the $100-150 range, even in that condition.
