Sorry about image as it was taken off computer & no scratches on coin like what appears to be going into hair.

Difficult to see - is this the missing WW on truncation coin from the recent Noonan's sale?

Well, you are spot on Sir!
Try finding these in 6th Edition Bull. It’s there but the reference is jumbled. Not in Davies or Spink and is the mule A3/A1 type with of course the 3rd obverse. A specimen may have passed through a 2003 Spink SNC but can’t find it. Caveat emptor as there is a weak “WW” but the obverse otherwise is not the 3rd type. Sorry for the nerd input!

So the no WW 1838 shilling definitely exists then?

Yes, this is the coin. I did find one other worn and cleaned VF specimen on extended google search. As said according to ESC & Bull some may be found with weak WW but are of the first obverse with regards to the other characteristics. This coin is therefore technically a mule.

Lovely coin. Is that a die crack on the reverse at 2:00?

Yes. I don't have the coin yet in hand but it is. ESC have it rated R4 whilst the 1850 shilling is at R3.

Update: coin is in hand and will post pictures of it as well as other 1838 "with WW" and 1858 shillings. This coin IMHO is NOT an 1838 but rather an 1858 with the downstroke on the "5" defective and thus appearing somewhat as an "8".

As you will recall there were not WW's on 1858s and the overall obverse and reverse types would otherwise be very similar...

Ah thought I had a white whale for a moment & got to send it back...

    OP coin in hand:

Will have to post below pictures of 1838 - although with WW & then 1858 coins with normal 5 and damaged 5.

Uggh not able to post picture past these for some reason.

    That's why I didn't bid on it. I couldn't reconcile the 5 with a 3, but could for a blocked 5.

    I meant "3" not "8", typo....
