What is the last coin related book you've purchased. Yesterday evening I picked up a copy of "Strike It Rich with pocket change" by Brian Allen and Ken Potter. What is your latest buy??? Taker Care Ben
Well not quite a book on coins but it is on Bank notes LOL The Banknotes of HM Queen Elizabeth II Special 80th Anniversary Edition Over 230 pages of information and full coloured illustrations on the banknotes of HRH EII As I am collecting them I thought it might prove useful LOL
The 2008 Guide Book. A Star con Book, 19th edition, from the 1920's and 8th Edition Blue Book (mint condition). However, that is more than one, sorry.
Probably the ANA grading guide but I hope to pick up a currency book Saturday. "Standard Guide to Small Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 to date" by Oakes and Schwartz. This is the one I keep suggesting to people that are looking for star notes and older notes all of the time.
It would be some of the books by James Wiles! I would highly suggest them to any collector who is interested in varieties. Speedy
Theoretically the Red Book is a retail price guide and the Blue Book is a wholesale price guide. Neither one is a good price guide. The Red Book also has much more general collecting information in it than the Blue - or at least it did up to the Blue Book's 57th Edition (dated 2000, but copyright and published in 1999), the last time I bought one. The full titles are "The Official BLUE BOOK Handbook of UNITED STATES COINS" and "The Official RED BOOK A Guide Book of United States Coins". The Blue Book refers to itself as "The Authoritative Annual Guide to Dealer Buying Prices. BTW the 2000 dated Red Book, published in 1999, is the 54th Edition. The first edition of the Blue Book was published in 1942 according to the back cover. The first Red Book wasn't published until 1946 according to its back cover notes. Both books show RS Yeoman as author and Kenneth Bressett as Editor, although Ken Bressett actually took over completely from Yeoman quite a few years ago.
Last Saturday I picked up the following, "Official Blackbook Price Guide to United States Paper Money" and "World Coins & Currency". Also, picked up the latest issue of Paper Money Values.
The last was the 2007 Redbook. I was thinking that it's time to get another book, and I have a 25% off coupon for Borders this weekend. Maybe I'll go over and see what's new. I'm not sure I need another Redbook.
Blackbook was the first currency book I ever purchased. I bought it to get an idea as to how to grade currency. Not the most accurate on values but really a good book for the money. Lots of good info on the printing process, star notes etc.
Yep, I like it because it is small, inexpensive and has some good basic information. My local dealer often refers to it when I ask him about a banknote he has for sale. So I figured I refer to it to kinda get a ballpark idea of what his asking price will be beforehand.
My latest book purchase is: "Silver & Nickel Dollars of Canada" 1911 to date.... Stephan E. Dushnick First edition, copyright 1978
