I don't know how many of you are interested in this kind of thing but I bought a $2000 strap of twenty's from my local bank just for fun. A full strap comprises 100 bills. This is what I got on 07/07/07: The Series: 1993-1(B-G) 1996-7 1999-7(BA-*) 2001-16 2004-64 2004A-5 The FRB’s: A-10 G-7 B-15 H-3 C-7 I-4 D-6 J-1 E-11 K-3 F-13 L-20
the 1993 is an old style and might be an interest to someone. i never heard of someone buying a strap of $20s'1
While I usually just get 50's when I cash in my halves, sometimes I switch it up and get $10's, $20's, and one time I even got it in $5's.
i'm thinking about buying a strap of dollar bills at the bank to see what i can find. it would be like coin roll hunting, except with dollars.
I have saved the '93. It is interesting to point out how much nicer the paper quality is when compared to its next gen. counterparts. I bought a strap of fives and will post the stats on those once I go through them. If you are interested in going through bills from the bank but can't afford whole straps, I recommend buying say 25+ bills at a time and then adding them up to equal a full strap. That is what I plan on doing with the hundred.
Searching currency Nice thread NOS, My wife usually goes to the bank for me. I have her ask for "old style" notes and mix it up. I used to get a lot of singles when one could still find web notes and 295 errors. When I go to the bank I always ask if they have any crisp packs of any denomintation but especially singles. I'll always put a few of those away as well as any CU star notes. It's a lot more expensive than roll searching but what the heck if you're there why not?
An old '73 canadian 20.00 note came through our cash, mint shape. Killed me because I didnt have 20 to buy it Sure was pretty
A full strap of fives: 1995-2(L-F and K-A) 1999-2 2001-10 2003-45 2003A-41 The FRB’s: A-3 G-4 B-19 H-1 C-3 I-1 D-5 J-4 E-9 K-6 F-10 L-35 Fives sure do wear out ridiculously fast!
its kindof weird that the $1 bills have a lifespan on 18 months, and $5 bills have a lifespan of 16 months! you think it would be the other way around.
Good observation Coinlover. Guess inflation has a lot to do with that. Think about it the U.S. used to mint half cents and they were worth something. Heck, you can't even buy "penny candy" anymore. Still a very astute observation on your part. Now when it gets to tens.......
Very interesting thread wish more threads like this occurred, amazing it see how many big head $20's came out of the stack (1996-2001) generation of $20's. They are hard to find today.
