Yes, it is much better made than the vast majority of Germanic siliqua coins I have come across, which along with it being minted in a city that was once Croatian is why I was willing to put in such a high bid for it.
I won it, but now I am bidding for something even more interesting, I will know in about a week whether I have won it or not.
There will also be an interesting coin on offer on Monday, but I am not sure about my chances of winning it, because there was some really crazy bidding taking place on the first day of the auction today...
The bidding for the coin I mentioned in the above post has already passed my maximum bid (15000 PLN, which is around 3700 USD), so if you want it, feel free to bid for it: https://aukcjamonet.pl/product/79464/roman-empire-trajan-decius-249-251-aureus-250-rome-rare?lang=en
And we get all these myths that numismatics is a dying hobby! Same crowd that states NATO was responsible for Putin's invasion of Ukraine! Coin trends are based on supply vs demand. In 2024 demand is HIGH/ supply is LOW. In future this will ONLY escalate in coin prices.
At the Coin Cabinet auction today I won this Roman Silver Antoninianus of Trajan Decius (minted in Rome sometime between 249 and 251), who was born in Budalia near Sirmium:
Our noble hobby will never die, but the constant increase in prices is worrisome, because if this continues, eventually only millionaires and billionaires will be able to afford to buy the mint state Roman, Greek, etc. gold coins. In any case, the Roman Silver Argenteus of Diocletian (minted in Siscia in 294) I won at the Coin Cabinet auction today ended up hammering for six times its estimate, but I am still glad to have won it.
Another Siscia coin with a crazy price: https://www.biddr.com/auctions/numismatiknaumann/browse?a=4813&l=5800787
I think its a beautifull coin/ very rare emperor/ mint. A Canada 1921 5 cents silver coin in VF sells for same price/ but hundreds known. The Vetrano coin maybe 5 known or less.
A Gold Solidus of Constantine II from the Siscia mint is available for sale here: https://www.gadoury.com/en/coins/rome-337-340-solidus-constantine-ii-ngc-choice-au
For my taste that coin is EF at best/ price is OK since only 2 known to Depyrot. I am lucky to have a FDC one ex: Triton VI (paid) $1300US back then.
This Bronze Follis of Constantine I from the Siscia mint might be of interest to somebody here: https://auctions.cngcoins.com/lots/...cia-mint-4th-officina-struck-ad-320-choice-ef
Another Gold Aureus of Diocletian will be up for auction in September: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=8249&lot=14 I won't bid on it.
This Gold Solidus of Valens is up for auction: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...ina-ad-364-367-ngc-ch-au-strike-55-surface-55
