Hi I just got an 1864 2 cent piece back from PCGS. They labeled it MS62 Small Motto FS-401 (FS-000.5) Can anyone tell me what FS-401 (FS-000.5) means? Thanks
Steve: Welcome, and it refers to the Cherrypicker's Guide (Fivaz & Stanton) The FS # is the listing number in the current volume #1 of the Guide. The Small Motto is 000.5 as listed in the Guide. Not sure what the FS-401 is. The Breen # is 2371, so it isn't that.
Thanks for the help. I got notice yesterday that that was the grade that they were shipping back. When I receive it, I will post a picture. Thanks again.
1864 2 Cent SM Motto PCGS MS62 I wanted to post 3 pictures of this coin. Couldn't get the file sizes down to what the Forum would accept. Thanks again.
The 000.5 is the FS number in Volume 1 of the fourth edition of CherryPickers. The numbering system was change with the fourth edition. FS-401 was the number for it in the earlier editions. (I many have those backwards as I don't have any of the editions of CherryPickers.)
Not sure what the Cherrypickers guide has to say. I have one around here somewhere. That is ONE NICE small motto and I'm a Two Cent Junkie! Looking at the surfaces of that piece I'm surprised it didn't get a higher grade. TRUST looks weak but that's a mint issue. How does the reverse look? Damn nice coin!
I now have a "Cherrypickers' Guide" fourth edition volume one. I also managed to upload a picture of the reverse. Thanks again for all the help.
