I believe I have a 63 roosevelt dime I believe is a ddo. Only problem is that its in a mint set. What would you do?
Yes, photos would help, but you must realize that not every doubled die is worth submitting just because it is a doubled die. If it is a common variety not in the best uncirculated condition, you are probably wasting your money. Chris
I'll go ahead and post some pictures from my phone's camera. But I do not like the quality or sharpness of them. My wife has the labtop, and it will be tomorrow evening before I can post some quality pictures. In addition to the crappy photos, its in the plastic too. I am unable to see in these pictures, what Im seeing in my 10x loupe....but here you go.
I believe in the last photo, you can see a hint of the notching I'm seeing on the "T". I can see it on the other letters too, but not in these pictures. But, I'll get some better ones up tomorrow....promise.
You need to give us clearer photos. Based on these, it looks like machine doubling to me. However, even if you have a true doubled die, I think you'd be wasting money submitting it. Chris
Yeah, I agree. I would not submit this coin for attribution. What I would do is beg, borrow, or buy a stereo microscope and take a better look at it. You seem to know what to look for.
You can send it to James Wiles to get it attributed without taking it out of the cellophane or set, only thing is that if it is a new variety he would need to take it out for photographing. He will contact you before he does this, if you let him know your wishes beforehand.
1963 proof sets don't carry a significant premium over melt, from what I recall... so if you're positive it's a coin you want graded/authenticated, go for it. However, as others have said, it might not be a significant DDO.
Matthew according to Wexler he does except encapsulated coins. I just received my gold liberty back and it was in the original mint airtight holder. But you can throw him an email to double check.
