Hi all, there is a penny, where the WE TRUST is totally missing on a coin up for auction on Heritage this week at the Long Beach show, lot 7165 is an NGC 1909-S Lincoln cent. How valuable is this type of error? thanks
Well first I thought "in god we trust" must all be missing to be a "godless" coin??? Not really sure about that. To me it looks like a grease filled die and I don't think they bring a premium, but wait for one of the experts.
During the late 70's early 80's there were a number of cuds with GOD missing on the Lincoln cents. These were heavily promoted to the public as major errores, and sold for big bucks. Today: the promoters are gone, and so is their money. Not a biggie.
IMO, as long as the word "god" is missing it would be "godless." I agree not much value to them, except maybe on the third side of a Presidential dollar. TC
The Lincoln Society has sold one similar to my 1964 Atheist Lincoln Penny without In God We Trust on it.
1964 Lincoln Penny Rare Mint Error! 1964 Lincoln Error Coin aka Atheist Cent Penny. 100% authentic mint errors. This Penny has been struck improperly. Penny was struck with a broken die. Penny has cud or lump of metal without In God We Trust.
I just worked on an article about a godless penny I found. It's a cud error covering the word God. They may or may not be valuable to atheists, but cud errors are highly collectible coins.
This thread is 13 years old. You need to start a new thread and post full sized photos of both sides. To me, this looks look me a zinc cent that Beas been damaged. Not a cud as cuds are raised and a blob of metal. You’ll get more answers from more members in a new thread.
I know what I have because I took it to a coin shop, and have had it in front of the eyes of many others as well. As rude as people were to me in that other forum, I think I'll just go back to advertising my own posts from my own blog instead of interacting with people on forums like this.
Likewise! God is a spirit with feelings too, hence the 1st Commandment. When Atheists make fun of me, I inform them of that while asking them how they would feel about their existence denied them just because others didn't witness. The flesh returning to the dust of the earth doesn't mean the end of our essence. This is the lesson Jesus taught us using words and examples.
No matter where we go in life, there will be all kinds of people. Some will be kind, stupid or rude. We don't have to respond or change our lives for those that are not friendly. Just ignore those that bring you down. This forum is the most friendly of any forum I have ever been on. Most here are more than willing to help others.
To me the "godless" coins are the 1911 Canadian coins with Dei Gratia omitted, and the US 1907 eagle and double eagle coins designed without the motto (because Roosevelt believed it was irreverent to put such a phrase on coins that would be used for immoral/criminal purposes). Calling these other flukes atheist or godless is just a way to get attention, hoping to pump up the value. There was no intent involved so to give them this moniker seems rather spurious to me.
In case you were unaware: before a mod comes on..... 8 – Subjects we don’t discuss here Basically it’s common sense. Just about every person on the planet has heard the saying – “never discuss politics and/or religion”. Why ? Because it starts fights, arguments and causes nothing but hate and discontent. If you wish to discuss politics and or religion, then go someplace else. We don’t allow it here. p.s. I didn't write it, the Big Boss did.
