Hello everyone I need help with this one. The weight is very low 4.607 to be enviromental is what I think. I weighed it several times And as you see in the pics I calibrated my scale before I weighed it again. The color is 100% the same on Obv and Rev of coin. I know it cannot be a missing clad layer nickels do not have a clad layer if I read that right. Anyone with any info your help is truly appreciated. Let me know if I need to take new pics.
This nickel appears to have been damaged. While there may be a small grease error present, the coin would likely not grade above AU50. That's a nice-looking 89-D in the second air-tite, though!
Can I ask why your weighing common nickels? Are you bored, again? It's obviously underweight due to environmental damage.
@SensibleSal66 under weight by that much from enviromental error tho? No not bored well maybe a little bit lol I figured I would give you all a good laugh or maybe it was something with the weight
Less than 8% underweight isn't that much for that kind of wear, especially when you factor in mint tolerance. At 1.75mm thick, it would only have to lose .07mm on each side to lose that much weight. Think about how thick less than a tenth of a mm is.
