    Hi All,
Here is what I consider one of my best coins. On the other hand, it appears these Indian Head 2.5 Gold Dollars are the target of the counterfeiters. The photos are below, but here are some specifics. Weight is 4 grams (I can't get my scale to do grams in decimals), diameter is 18mm, thickness is 1mm. It does have a reeded edged. Fake or not? Many thanks!

Weight and diameter are correct (doesn't necessarily mean it's real but it does mean it's not fake on account of weight or size). Some of those stars on the obverse look a little suspicious to me, and the D mintmark looks a little strange, but I might just be seeing something where there's nothing to see. Something also looks odd at the top right of the headdress, but could be wear or minor damage maybe? The design elements otherwise look basically correct. Not seeing obvious casting marks. If it's a fake, it's a really good one.

1925-D is a popular one to fake and I'd suggest sending it to a TPG for a 2nd opinion. If it's real it's worth doing that, and if it's fake, well guess the education is worth something.

Fakes of these from the middle east were very good and real gold, supposedly created in part to evade the prohibition on owning gold in the US. Even with better images and more accurate weight I'm not sure if anyone could tell if it's one of the good ones or not from a forum post.

Check out the designers initial seems off to me. It’s hard to see details to tell if there is tool marks or spikes. Photos are really bright to be able to see any details. Good luck! Hoping it is the real deal.

Not a very good pic to work with at all, someone already mentioned the stars look shaky and the right leg of the eagle at the bottom also looks shaky but honestly it could be the pic! Sometimes when someone asks about their coin, it's fake right off the bat cause it's obvious, that said I can't call it with yours. good luck! ;)

I would vote counterfeit. The lettering looks strange to me.

Here are two 1925-D coins that I have. NGC graded this one MS-65.

This one is in my raw set of Indian $2.50 pieces. I would grade it AU-55.

Sadly, the counterfeiters do a good job with these. It is worth the minimal cost of an ICG judgment.

Hmmm - many thanks! I see what you mean - let's see what ICG says!
