I'm curious if anyone marks coins that they have searched. I would like to hear what you think!

I myself have never marked searched coin, but I have heard of other high volume hunters that mark coins so they can gauge recirculation. One guy even spray painted halves for a period.

I mark the dimes rappers with a rubber stamp of Bart Simpson. so I know/can see that I have searched it already. never the coins.

So I often considered it for half rolls. Ultimately did not do it, because I felt this was a bit of a waste of time.

[IMHO] Just search and return to another bank far away from where you pick up. If you are able to learn the courier also select institutions that use different armored transport.

Funny this is mentioned. When I snagged a 500$ box a few weeks back they had soooo many half dollars that were painted red, orange or yellow lol makes you wonder if someone is trying to keep track in the northern NJ area.

No. I think it's a horrible practice. Some people out here like to put numbers on coins, and I'll actually change the numbers on them just to discourage it. I'll mark my wrappers, but that is all.

We get pink painted ones out here on the West coast. It looks like nail polish!

Do the numbers have a x on the interior?

Once in awhile I'll put a small blue mark on the reverse of an already damaged/blemished coin. To the average person it would appear to be a random spot.

No. I have seen coins with black Xs though. Just randomly.

Like maybe on a ear? I have found plenty of marked halfs with blue and orange ink on Kennedy's ear while roll hunting. I also find alot of marked damaged coins.

I get lots of halves that are marked. One guy spray paints a non-silver coin silver and then writes "Jerk" on the obverse. There's another guy who's tag "JK" has showed up in just about every box I have done. In some boxes he shows up on a large percentage of the coins. Then there is the guy who writes an obscenity on the obverse. The worst I got was a box where the halves were marked with a date in huge writing on the obverse. This was the worst as I thought the bank would not take them back. All in all marking coins disgusts me. It takes the fun out of it for me. That being said I found a tag dated 9/29/16 in a box I searched 2 days ago. This box was ordered through the bank and they were Loomis MWR. Two week turnaround us pretty quick.

Juke box money...many of you are too young to remember these. I wish I had a pic.

Yeppir Juke box, pool tables and early 80's video game machines. Establishment free play. We usually allotted $20.00 per week per machine placed. Sometimes the establishments painted more, and when we popped the machine our 50/50 split was minimal.....fat chance. Give em back their $20.00 worth and listen to them whimper. Easy money ha!
