i preferred changing the obverse to some different indian chief or others. and maintained the american eagle on the reverse. so that it will look more of an official u.s. coin. with two persons (one for obverse and one for reverse). the coin will look like a commemorative coin. what is your opinion?.

typing error: new sacagawea dollar reserses. it should read reverses. thanks.

I think the coin as is has a lot going for it. I like the reverse as is, I've always enjoyed coins that have eagles or other emblems of our freedom. As for the obverse, I think it is boring and un-inspirational. Definately like to see a new obverse... Perhaps a redesign of The Oregon Trail commemorative half dollar from the 20's & 30's, I like that design and it was Indian themed as well... Not to mention it was designed by James Earle and Laura Gardin Fraser!!!! ( Mr, Fraser was the Buffalo Nickel designer :) )

well it would mean throwing more and more at the coin collecting public. Just when you thought they could not water it down any more!

I think they would be better off ending the sacagawea dollar entirely and just let the Presidential dollars move ahead. With two dollar series going at the same time and neither of them being circulated it is too much for us to follow.

That would make sense, and that is why congress not only kept the program, but they require the mint to make MORE of the unpopular coin.:desk:

    good ideas guys

i hope people in charged will read our good suggestions. and come out with what the collectors hoping for. when collectors like it. the general public will like it too.

on the other hand. when poor quality or ugly design coin introduced and produced it. few people like it and use it. then. it became rare and few. thus created key date and other rarities that push that prices up.

and when we collectors like it. it will be selling like a hot dogs. then the mintage will be too many. so it is really hard to decide. maybe just let it go. and we can make a fortune. isn't it. after all, do we have that power to change.

p.s. i would like to have 16 design for indian head (chief) for 16 year series on the obverse. and preserve the reverse (am eagle flying).

That would be my favorite series too if they could pull that off. I think they could also do these indian heads on the nickle instead and using the old buffalo on the reverse it would be an awesome series as well.

I agree. Keep the reverse change the obverse.
But we know the Dakota deligation would never allow that.

    dakota delegation

then, issue 16 design with 16 indianhead on obverse with flying eagle on the reverse
keep the sacagawea dollar as well as the presidential dollars series.
and see which one is the best.

I was under the impression that they discontinued the sacagawea when they started the presidential dollar. Silly me

    the u.s. mint

they produced what ever the people suggested and of course approved by the congress. they make money on every coin they produces. why not?.

I like the coin pretty much as is.

I would hate to see the reverse changed because I think it's a great design.

And to think, I remember just 12 yeas ago when the offical posiion of the Treasury was in opposition to changing the coin designs with the argument that having more than oine design in circulation would confuse people and lead to counterfeiting. So they opposed changing coin designs at every turn. My how times have changed.
