So here is another Grade my Coin Challenge. I just got this at auction. It's not incredibly rare nor incredibly expensive, yet is in an old green holder and my eye likes it as a plus if not a grade higher than the holder. And the scratch at the bottom of the obverse is on the holder not the coin. Let's see what you folks think. I got it just because I liked the coin and want to build a nice Indian Cent collection. A higher grade (at least in my head) would just be a bonus. These are the pictures from the auction.
Your photo is not showing me any luster, so it's hard to tell if it's even MS or not. I'm just assuming it is and going to guess that the label says MS64 RB.
58 on the holder but should be au details , looks to be putty in front of the head band, and corrosion below the 1 and top right of the arrow shaft on reverse
@KoinJester Your mood definitely fits (Cynical)! i will say it's MS and pretty sure that putty isn't involved. That said, who knows. As for luster, I will say that I haven't seen the coin in hand and can't comment on that part. Will leave the rest to myself as I want the comments to be unbiased.
Agreed, the pics aren't great at producing luster more about details. Here is a coin, same auctioneer newer holder, same grade.
The first pictures you posted had it looking like a Details grade as the color looked off. The next set of pictures tells a whole different story. 64RB,some marks on the cheek.
I think the OP said that in a round about way..."Here is a coin, same auctioneer newer holder, same grade."
Yes the second picture was a different coin, same grade newer holder. The coin I purchased appears to have been graded correctly if not generously in comparison to your grades. I will have to see what it looks like in person to judge luster.
MrO, try a little peanut butter on that slab scratch...might help lessen it. I would experiment on a lesser slab first. Also have read that Testors hobby sanding films work well.
