1974 Lincoln cent from the middle of a mint roll with an unusual spot.

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Robert Theroux, Jun 24, 2024.

  1. I have pulled out a 1974 Lincoln cent from the middle of a mint roll with an unusual spot. Is this something that is normal, I have gone through all of the 6 rolls I have saved since I got them back in 1974 and this was the only one like this.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Some kind of surface contamination. But that doesn't make it a mint error of any kind.

  5. Thank You, that is kind of what I thought and have seen some small spots on coins before, I just never seen anything quite like this before

That coin had something on it when it was wrapped and for years it just got to where it is now. Not a mint error.

Sad that it's got that mark on it. If it wasn't for that, this would be a penny I'd keep, due to its age and how great of shape it is.

No one has said to soak it in acetone? Maybe it's grease or ink and will come right off. Don't trust me though because I've only used acetone on a coin once.
