Here are 2 pictures of 2016 Cumberland Gap Quarters. I have multiple of the same quarters with the 3 indents, in various places on the quarters. Could this be a mint error or just coincidence?

NO. Take a quarter out of your pocket and hit it with the edge of another quarter.

No. It's hits from the edge of another reeded coin.

Thank you. I'm just starting to get into this. I'm sure I'll have many more silly questions like this. Hehe

Being new to the hobby myself, these folks are great with answering questions patiently. You'll find that the knowledge you gain from searching forums, reading books (looks like you may enjoy the Cherrypicker's Guides) and researching online, will be invaluable in your coin hunting. I have found that the library system is a treasure trove of valuable information that is free. I'm currently wading through the Fuld book on Civil War Tokens. Knowledge is power.

I went through tons of rolls of coins searching for errors and hoping that I saw something that matched pictures I'd seen. Even totally funky coins (see my die crack post that ended up being a huge debate about lamination errors) are debatable in tons of different ways.

Good luck and keep having fun!

Indeed. At times it may seem as if some are rude or harsh towards the new, but as long as you're serious and trying to learn, there'll be no shortage of people willing to help.

    Welcome to the forum.
