For a 1962 copper coin how much is the weight tolerance? I have one that weighs Anywhere from 3.14 to 3.15. All the others way 3.11. I am guessing that is within the weight tolerance, but I just want confirmation. Thank you. IMG_3440.JPG IMG_3441.JPG IMG_3439.JPG IMG_3438.JPG

yes, I got that about the 1983 ones and some of the more recent ones like that. I just couldn't find anything on the older ones that were supposed to be almost all copper.

Note in the quote above where it reference the brass 1983's, that tolerance is valid for all Lincoln cents from 1909 to 1981 with the exception of 1943.

Oops, I totally misunderstood that part. I got it now. Thank you for pointing that out to me.

Please also note that USUALLY a heavier cent will be a more strongly struck cent. More metal is present to flow into the deep recesses of the die.

Would I be correct in assuming the sheets that the blanks are cut out from might not be within the "perfect" tolerance causing this situation?

Sure, it HAD TO BE shoddy workmanship then. After all, it was done by "gummint woikahs" at that time.
