I'm not having much luck with these. Sorry for the awful pictures. All three are right at 12mm.

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

i just picked up a little arcadius salvs from constantinople...

i havne't exactly attributed it myself yet, but 11 mm and 1.5 g.

i'm not sure what yours is, i usually go with arcadius, theodosius, honorius on these i can't make your legend jive with any of those? is it a bludnered legend?

i'm pretty sure your THIRD coin is valentinian ii...maybe valentinian iii on the second coin??

Thank you @chrsmat71 for some direction to search. The second does resemble Valentinian III. I'll have to check later, time for work.

Your 1st (and possibly also 3rd) coin is most likely a contemporary copy.
The 2nd coin could be Johannes, but with no obverse legend and the chin area too vague to tell if the portrait is bearded, it's difficult to be certain.
Have you ever used the Helvetica interactive spreadsheets for ID'ing Roman coins (mainly LRB's and/or ants)? Often you can come up with surprisingly specific ID's with very little remaining detail.

Yeah, the second one could be a scarce Val III or Johannes. With no obverse legend we'll never know - unless you can find a die match for the reverse. In which case you will have a $100 coin.

Thanks @lehmansterms and @Greg Heinrich! I've been so into provincials recently that my Imperials got pushed to the side. I will be looking at Val III and Johannes tonight!

    And my Val III IMG_4487.JPG
At this stage in the Empire, the style has become very degenerate. Yours might be a bit too neat for Val III, or it could just be very nice for the type (which will be a major selling point). Let us know the results of your research.

Coin 1: Valentinian II - reverse is SALVS REIPVBLICAE, Victory dragging captive; ALEA in exergue

Coin 2: Honorius - reverse is VICTORIA AVGG, Victory walking left with wreath and palm branch, (epsilon) to left; RM (Rome mint) in exergue

Coin 3: Valentinian II - reverse is VOT X MVLT XX; can't tell what the mintmark is

All are fairly common and certainly authentic.

Thank you @Brian Bucklan! I still like them even if they are common! I'm not 100%, but I think this is Johannes.

These SALVS REI - PVBLICE types were struck for Theo II, Johannes and Val III, and this one is almost assuredly Johannes. Can kind of make out a bearded bust.
