While I agree the beast looks much like a llama the fact that they are from South America makes that unlikely. I could be talked into the thing being a dromedary albeit a small one.
cool new coin stevex! hey, there's a lot worse things a fella can do when his spouse is out of town....i'd say you're being good! i have this coin islamic coin with an image of a person (helios?). this is an artuqid coin.
I had a pet duck in college. I found it as a hatchling in October which was way too late in the year for it to survive. It imprinted on me and I kept it in my apartment in a large box and fed it dog food. In the morning that winter the duck would quack loudly when the sun came up. One day my neighbor said to me "John I think I'm losing my mind, I keep hearing a duck quacking every morning". I, of course, looked at him and told him he was indeed crazy. Later on I told him I actually did have a duck and he was relieved and totally cool with it.
Thanks chrsmat ... I'm gonna quote you on that if my wife happens to check my VISA => "but he said that I was being good!!" hey, I have a similar type to your cool thread-addition ... ... Theo, I love the great duck tale
That is so funny - Yes - ducklings will imprint with what/who they first see. Ohio has a law that retailers selling ducklings have to sell at least 3 at a time!
Sadly, Wayne (the seller) couldn't find my original OP-coin, but he found a second example that I had also asked about originally ... see the two coins below: Original, yet "unavailable" OP-coin (most likely he sold this coin, yet he neglected to remove the posting on vcoins) New "available" coin ... Here is Wayne's quote: Frankly, I think it (the new available coin) is a better choice. The coin is more attractive in hand than the photo and it is far more scarce than the Rukn al-Din. This coin has a very unusual feature where the mint is typically found on these (below the horse). I believe the mint name is stylized into a dragon. An unusual variety, perhaps retaining elements of the Byzantine prototype of St. George and the Dragon. In any case, this coin is not a typical Konya mint issue. It appears to be from a mint in north or northeast Anatolia. So, I was wondering what you coin-gang think? ... I actually have no problem switching and buying the new coin, since I was originally undecided and flip-flopped between the two examples ... the "new available" coin is actually slightly more expensive than my original Op-coin, yet Wayne is offering to make a straight-swap and eat the wee extra cash for the confusion ... => what do you think? ... should I go for Door #2? Oh, and here is my St. George and the dragon example ...
Hmmm, really? ... not even with the extra star and gratuitous dragon-design? (oh and look at that big-flan, eh?) ... ummm, would Wayne Sayles steer me wrong, my friend? I admit that the cool colourful patina was what swayed me towards the original coin ... but again, I flip-flopped between the two, so I will probably accept his offer
Nobody else has a comment? (did Smeag put a big downer on the night, or what?) thanks, either way cheers
Bummer, Steve... Obviously Wayne Sayles knows abit more about these coins (and coins in general?) than I do, but I think coin #1 is a better coin. Still, that is still a pretty darn cool dragon mintmark! Go for it.
Thanks Markus => yah, I'm weak (I had already jumped at the swap) ... notice my avatar? (eh, coin-on my friends ... I love my "newer" coin) Cheers
