I won this coin in the most recent Agora auction but haven't had a chance to photograph and post until today. This comes from one of the earliest emissions of the Rome mint during the Second Punic War, shortly after the introduction of the denomination as part of the denarius system. This particular example has a beautiful dark, shiny hoard patina(with a few thicker spots that you can see around the chin) that my picture just barely does justice to. Roman Republic AR Quinarius(2.17g). Anonymous. After 211 B.C. Rome mint. Helmeted head of Roma right; behind, V. Border of dots / Dioscuri galloping right; in linear frame, ROMA. Line border. Crawford 44/6; RSC 3. Ex RBW Collection, privately purchased from Antiqua, 3/1997 Feel free to post anything related

So you are the one who won JA's Arabia Felix Himyarite AR Quinarius. I always wondered who got it. It is a sweet little coin. I almost regret not bidding on it. That was a nice acquisition if you ask me. I'm glad it went to a good home.

Nice pick-up red_spork, strong detailed coin. I think my one is of the same attrition as yours, but not as detailed. RSC 3, 2.3gm. Toned.
Phenomenal OP @red_spork !!!! One of the very best I've ever seen! Terrific posts all !! Here are two that I managed to acquire; a quinarius of M Cato and C Clelius:
The OP coin is interesting in the use of a dot for the o in ROMA. The last Volodya coin is also small o but has a bit more center shape. I assume this is early??? While more worn, I like the Aussie specimen for its excellent strike and bold details/legend that come with a premium strike. This thread shows how different coins can be and still each be better than the others in some way.
