For the last month or more I've been going through the coins I bought at the Central States show and my LCS and listing some for sale and deciding to keep others. I'm finally at the bottom of the barrel, and the very last coin I grabbed was this one. I haven't seen the date so I decided to check it out before I sold it. Wait, what? NGC gives a value of $475 in F. Unless I'm missing something, this is the greatest cherry pick I've ever had by far. I'm sure I paid at most 25 cents for this coin.
Here is a sold listing I found: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3261422901...hVvUOl2ojMefHN9VacJhhFwct9|tkp:Bk9SR9675OmEZA
That's certainly a mighty fine pick up! Even if the figures quoted are a little optimistic, you will still make a substantial gain if you sell it.
Very low mintage for that year, less than 200,000. You should check the varieties of mintmark, you never know.
Nice. This coin is outside the scope of what I focus on so I'm far from an expert here but your coin seems to be a good XF and if you bought it for 25 cents then you got yourself a steal. Your coin does seem to have some sort of contaminant (white residue, especially notable on the reverse, above the 10). This is billion so I'm not sure what ails billion but appears to me the equivalent of verdigris. In terms of value, I'm never too keen to just rely on book value - it's often times MATERIALLY OFF from actual current market prices. There are far too many intangibles that can impact the value of a coin. That said, the above coin hammered for 360EUR and i think yours is more attractive. I'd say yours is worth 200-300 quite easy, and perhaps more if that white contaminant can be safely removed. Congrats!
Yeah I know high book values tend to be unrealistic for otherwise unremarkable coins that are just low mintage and only really appeal to people trying to get a complete set, but it still seems like a great find.
