1794 Large Cent

I'm a little late to this thread, but I've only ever had one of these coins. They don't come cheap, so I settled for an "okay" example. I've always loved the edge lettering on these and the "1/100" designation on the reverse (the "1/200" on the Half Cents of this same era fascinates me even more.).

Unfortunately slabbing takes away some or all of the edge from view.

BTW, the mint put edge lettering on these pieces not to prevent people from scrapping off pieces of metal as it is with the gold and silver. The idea was to make them harder to counterfeit. Once the weight was lowered on the cent and half cent during the last week of 1795, the coins were too thin for edge lettering.
