actually somewhere between VF & XF.

    Variety: 1/000
    VF= $700.
    (retail)
However, I am not an expert on these but I do enjoy them.

    Very nice piece.
    Did you purchase it?

    Frank:

Coin world says there are no auctions for this coin in their pricing detail :goofer:....yet I see lots of actual auction prices at Heritage.

I agree with your grade...that is the same that I came up with...

Any and all opinoins please as to grade and price... :hammer:

    Thank you.

Very nice coin. It appears to be an S-223 with the 1/000 reverse. I would grade it a VF 25 net 20 by EAC standards. The junction of the hairline and the forehead has worn away, which would likely keep it from being a VF 30. I would say that it is probably about a $500 coin in today's market

Why did you net grade it?
Is there a problem with the piece that you saw?

    Just asking.

I agree that it appears to be an s-223... where does one find the EAC stanards?

There is no major problem with the piece, and the grading companies would surely holder the coin, probably as a VF 25 or maybe even a 30. By EAC standards, you first take the technical grade (which I gave 25), and then net it down for things like surface quality, hits, rim bumps, and color. I thought it would probably be netted down about 5 point for some standard hits in the fields and a weak reverse.

It is by no means a problem coin however. It would holder by a TPG, and it would be a coin that I would love to own.

Where does one find "training" on EAC standards?

I would say the best way is probably by joining EAC. I do not think the EAC standards are actually published, but the EAC people write articles about aspects of copper collecting, including grading.

I was a member of EAC once...but somehow never saw the renewal form. All the materails each month just pilled up on my desk.
