20240603_003002.jpg Has anyone else gotten any 2024 coins? These are all I've seen. Nothing in other denominations, just pennies. At some point somewhere, I heard the United States is doing away with the penny. Is that correct @paddyman98?

I think that I've gotten some dimes maybe. Not sure about doing away with the penny. U think they tried but nothing passed, so far. Here's a good link.....Penny debate in the United States - Wikipedia

Congratulations on finding them. I have seen a single 2024 coin in circulation.

Thank you for the article. Looks like it’s been a debate for a while.

In the last week or two, the self-checkouts at Food Lion have started serving up 2024 dimes. (Oddly, I think they're Denver mint, even though I'm in NC.) I haven't seen any others yet.
This comes up regularly near the beginning of April. ;) It's nonsensical to keep minting and circulating one-cent coins (and I have my opinion about nickels and dimes as well), but I don't think there's any political will to do anything about it.

I'm in Arizona, usually see the new coinage early.
I don't get much change but when I cash out a casino ticket...the casinos usually have the new money.
Id say quarters dimes and cents show up first, but then again I really don't look at the nickels that close.
If it's shiny I assume it's new and usually gloss over them.

Not sure why it's taking so long for 2024 coins to show up, especially as close to the Denver Mint as I am. So far have not seen a single 2024 dime or nickel in circulation. Have only found 2024-D pennies, and 2024-D Pauli Murray and Patsy Mink quarters so far. Although quite unusually from a vending machine I got 2 2024-D Alabama innovation dollars in change (not only are these not issued for circulation, but they're very recent releases).

Well, they apparently shipped a bunch of your 2024-D dimes to a Food Lion here in central NC! They started turning up from the self-checkouts a couple of weeks ago.

I hear there's somewhat of a coin shortage and it's taking the Mint some time to catch up; funny that they're showing up on the other side of the country faster than a place less than 10 miles away from the Mint lol. (Especially as you're a lot closer to the Philadelphia Mint!) I don't collect dimes specifically and really am only keeping my eyes open for silver, but I do keep my eyes open for the new mintages just to see when they show up.

Nickels we seem to get so many 2023's that are so new there's a noticeable sharpness on the rims but have not yet seen a 2024. Even on eBay it's only now just possible to get them from people that buy rolls and sell them piece by piece, not sure where they even got them but that it took them this long into the year is unusual (normally they can count on getting them by February and this year it was later into May).

I started noticing that in the 2010s, I think -- I'd handled unworn nickels before, but that was the first time I noticed the rims actually catching on my fingertips. Wonder if there was a process change that caused that?

Maybe I just never noticed it until then, but it really caught my attention at the time -- "wow, I've never felt a nickel rim that sharp!"

I find nickels with sharp rims often. I have numerous in a jar.

Any from the (cough) 1900s? I'm still wondering if it's a recent change...

I think if the guv mint just put out a simple request, the people would return coins to the banks.Word spreads fast these days

Honestly there are so many that I have with sharp rims, I'm beginning to wonder if I am imagining this. I have 1900's and 2000's
