I'm talking about the guy on here, named Silver Searcher

 

I'm with you - he posts Youtube Videos here then when you go to them on Youtube ,he requests contacting him through his "Business" E mails!!

 

Add him to your block list and ignore him.

 

Doesn't stop him from deceiving other CT members!

 

Much as I dislike his posts, I'm not sure that this thread will accomplish anything...

 

About the only way it could accomplish anything would be if he committed a violation, was warned by the mods and ignored their warning.

I don't like his methods any more than you, so my only alternative is to "Ignore" him.

Yeah - they (just one) only care about an accidental slip about Religion or Politics that they don't like - then they ban you for life -

 

The problem is that it's almost an advertising attempt with click bait for every one of his posts. He sounds like he's 12 and it says he's 38

I know - and he can spew his crap videos on CT without any problems while he is endorsing his business on YouTube!! And the GREAT Gem doesn't do a damn thing about it - too busy worried about our CT threads!!

 

That's the thing... I've seen gemmy dish warnings over self-serving videos, at least once it became obvious and even to otherwise participating members, yet this kid (thus far) gets a pass. His videos are nothing more than blatant self-promotion and as such are against the rules, but if powers that be wish to allow it, so be it. The best we can do is either ignore him, or better yet point out how ridiculous he really is. That said, I can't help but wonder how much he'd appreciate it if we started trolling his video comment sections, posting crap, calling his BS, whatever. Something tells me he wouldn't apprciate our spam even though he seems to think his is perfectly fine here.

If you find a specific video where he is offering B/S/T, let us know, there are rules about that. If a member had to subscribe just to see that and not utube in general to see it, that would be a problem also. I am no fan of videos that are not related to the thread or subject, but there are hundreds of off subject videos and music videos here already , so ignore them is the best bet. I am a mod on CT, not utube, so yes I worry about it. take your complaint to Utube if you wish. If you find the rule he violates here, as I said report the specific post. Politics and Religion rules ARE in the rules, and accidental ,come on. Jim

 

And Yes Books, if you find a similar post directing members to a B/S/T Ad, or having to have to subscribe, the same response from me would be there, but I don't waste time watching every video someone posts on Utube.

My post regarding your past warnings to an otherwise participating member wasn't intended as a jab, but only to show how the very same self-promotion wasn't tolerated in the past. Not good nor bad but just a simple example. Little Andy wasn't selling anything, and just like this kid, was simply trying to up his views. This has nothing to do with the BST or wasting one's time watching dumb YouTube videos.

I know Doug gave him a pass, and can only assume that even if you wished to put a foot down, your hands are tied. That's not a bad thing...

 

Possible self promotion aside, I think videos are worthless to show coins to other collectors. A still photograph is needed to study a coin, which is part of the fun about this site.

 

Books, I didn't see it as a jab. As a member I also would like them gone in truth. The same is true for music and some other meme and looping crude. but as with all other members, neither I nor will Doug or other mods do it unless it violates a rule. I believe that is what Doug was saying, and not giving a pass, believe me we mods know, we do not get passes if we violate either...not that we would of course
