As most of you know, I collect pre 1500 A.D. dated coins.
I've not had much luck lately winning in the auctions. Even
bidding 3 and 4 times estimate has shut me out. I've started
picking up Byzantine coins that have regnal dates. These are
coins that have Roman numeral numbers indicating how many
years into the Emperors reign they were struck. Most are under
$50 and in decent shape. Here is one I won today.
    Maurice Tiberius Year 9.jpg
    Maurice Tiberius 582-602
Follis 12.34g. Year 9 The 9 is figured as G=6 plus the three I.
minted in Constantinople. 4th officina. The triangle symbol below
the large "M" is I believe the Greek symbol for 4.

Feel free to correct me, kinda new at this era of numismatics.

I Been collecting US coins since the late 1960’s and perfectly happy…. Went to a coin show four years ago and I had a buddy with a table there. Just beside my buddies table was a table of Ancients and a striking bust of Christ caught my eye…. Yeah, I bought my first anonymous folles... And probably ten more since. Byzantine pieces are quite the rabbit hole. And man, the history!

A Roman walks into a bar, holds up two fingers, "I'll have five beers, please." :)
