Violation of ebay's c@pm policies...definitely fake and not gold. You may be able to get him NARU'd if you report him.

So did the seller go back & change the ad? Is that possible? Because now even the header reads 'token' ~ it's labeled 'cal gold ..token'

If he did, he also changed all of his closed auctions. I am sure that is impossible.

Even if it's real? It's one half dollar, that's less than 1/40th of an oz.

    That is one cute copy.
So poorly done that it is attractive.

here's what I wrote in my complaint to eBay:

This is only a small sample of the numerous items of the same
ilk that are being sold by a specific seller on your site.

This seller is representing these as gold. The only description of
these tokens mentions the word gold. To a knowledgeable coin collector, due
to the size of these tokens, it is plausible that the tokens would be
made of gold, which I do not believe they are.

Also, these are copies or replicas and per the Hobby and Coin Act (if
being sold in the USA) these must be called replicas, copies or referred
to in some way ON THE COIN (or in the description) in order to be sold
    as such.

Many reputable people sell replicas of coins, but the items are listed
as such. The mere mention of these as tokens does satisfy this
requirement because it does not mean that they are NOT made of gold. The seller
uses this 1 word as the disclosure and therefore is knowingly
misrepresenting the items listed as well as others. A clear violation of eBay
    policy.

As many sellers have recently done, the language used is: "I don't know
about these coins, but I have been colecting for 30 years." This claim
of ignorance in order to misrepresent is nothing more than fraud, and
eBay is complicit in this fraud if they do nothing about users who list
    items in this manner

    Mike;

You are going to find that you need to PROVE what you are saying. The eBay personnel are obviously numismatically challenged. They have no more reason to believe you than the seller. Had you received it, a letter from an "authority" would work. Shy of that, maybe you could coerce a member here to write such a letter including his credentials. I would hope that they would accept that.

I actually know experts that would be more than happy to write a letter for me if and when I receive the coin.

You are going to need one of those letters to win - whether or not you receive the coin.

    Quick question.....
If this guy covered it in gold leaf, like I thought it looked like, could he in fact list it as gold ?
    Just a thought.

MY assertion is that he descibes it as gold, Token or not, the description is a gold token, not a gold token replica or copy, but a gold token, That to me says it's made of gold.

The nonsense will not stop as long as IDIOTS keep buying his crap.

The best way to stop eBay fraud is to stop buying from eBay! Instead save your money for local shops, regional shows or reputable coin-specific auction houses.

If you had followed this thread thru from the beginning, you would have realized that the buyer did not realize that he had made a mistake.
But, to call him an idiot is just plain WRONG!

Take a moment and read David Bowers Coin World article this week and he tells how he got stuck with two fake proof half cents. And he is an expert.
He learned his lesson and studied as much as he could learn.

No one can know everything, I have gotten stuck with NG coins, luckily once I as able to return it.

We are all human, and make mistakes, so, stop name calling, this forum is meant for educations, not abuse.

There's more than one way to take Trip's comment - I don't think that he is calling Mike an idiot. Personally, I agree that there are idiots on ebay who will buy almost anything and everything and pay outrageous prices for it.

I think the point he is making is that if people would become educated before they go and spend their money - then sellers like this guy would dry up and blow away because no one would buy his crap.
