If I'm the lucky post drawn I'd also like it to go to @dano. Your chances get even better now. Good luck to your scouts, and you in this drawing.

@Charlie Cliques - want to enter? What’s your prize selection? All I saw in your post was a quote of my original post.

Entry post, always a pleasure @lordmarcovan, thank you. Here is a picture of the ceiling at Fort Pickens, Pensacola, Florida. Nice visit but wouldn't want to get caught up there. ;) 20240207_113540.jpg

    Numista-7058, KM-16. 204,000 minted.

Ex-Stacks Bowers May 2024 World Collectors Choice Online Auction, Lot 32610.

I was bidding on several lots in the recent Stacks Bowers auction, and lost out on all of them except this one, which had been sort of a casual afterthought. I had bid on it because it was going cheap, and I figured hey, if I won it, I'd put it in with the giveaway goodies.

I did factor the usual 20% buyer's fee into my calculations, but did not realize that S-B must have a minimum commission of $25! Oops.

So it closed for $20 (the hammer price), plus $25 buyer's fee (ouch), plus $12.50 shipping (ouch again).

    S-B invoice.png

In other words, I just paid $57.50 for a coin which is not worth nearly that much, and which cost a bit more than the usual $50 max I budget for giveaway prizes. But… eh... so what. I'm giving it away, so none of that matters now, right? ;)

The price (free!) is right, as far as you are concerned. So if you win the drawing at the end of the month, and decide this one is the prize for you, then you shall have it. It is a nice coin, after all- I've always liked the big Jersey twelfth-shillings.

Although you've overpaid for this (by quite a bit :() it is at least interesting from the point of view that it is the only one of the series with two different obverses. Most dealers don't discriminate between the two. This is the London obverse (177 border teeth, if I've counted correctly). The Calcutta obverse has 178 teeth.

Incidentally, I got back from Jersey on Saturday. My first visit, it's a lovely place.
