And I’m pretty sure there was more silver in that till. I could hear it when the attendant grabbed the change for me.
I have a habit of checking my change. Hardly ever find much but went to Billy Sims bbq after church for lunch today and got this 1957 Washington. Did get a W mint quarter awhile back as well.
These are finds from @Pickin and Grinin - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/pocket-change.412130/ Now that’s a good week’s worth of findings! I would be pleased to get those over a couple months. Perhaps more Chinese takeout tonight?
Thing is I have watched her take the good ones out, and throw them in another tray. She just missed this one.
Hey all ! Okay @Kevin Mader FOUND YA! I am loving all the different coins in here that people are sharing! So awesome ! So as a lot of you, I can’t quite remember where anything came from because it’s from accumulated change everywhere from my purses to my son’s pockets and floor in his room! I love laundry days! Lol @cwart Here are the bicentennial nickels you asked me to check on.. I have two of the 2004 Westward Journey Keelboat Jefferson nickels, one each of the 2005 Westward Journey Bison and the Westward Journey Ocean View ..
@SoCal Mama 3 down 1 to go!! Keep an eye out for that last one. Big lesson here, just collect what you enjoy. If pocket change finds are your thing go for it. If you want to chase the high dollar coins do that. Always remember this is a hobby, it should be fun!!!
I know and as we speak I’m looking for the other one in this huge bag lol .. I wish I knew aside from the obvious coins worth hundreds of thousands of dollars what to look for lol.. but it’s a learning process and this is what I intend to do… just learn little by little with all the helpful information all of you have provided so far. Much thanks
In my home, I do the majority of the laundry. I do find plenty of change, but sometimes I find it a little late. Regarding 2004 nickels, watch for the Philly DDO. I found 3-4, one from pocket change. And scrolling through this thread you’ll note various other DDOs and DDRs I’ve found, a WAM, and some silver too. I’ve found a bunch of older and variety coins over the year. As you gain knowledge of what to look for, you may be pleasantly surprised. Oh yeah…and a few Star notes. Keep an eye open for currency items too!
Ok - all you thread followers, I was thinking that we might create an informal tradition of selecting a monthly favorite. May has just started so let’s see what we find in our change and post your finds for others to consider. For instance, @Pickin and Grinin probably had the best fortune for the month of April. @Dustin McDaniel probably had that slot until P&G struck more silver. But, who knows. Someone might take the month with a curious find…like a disk battery or other goofy novelty. Something to consider…looking forward to the community’s contributions!!
The marks/lines on the reverse around the words United and one cent, are those referred to as the luster of the coin?
No, those are linear plating blisters. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=Linear+plating+blisters Here is a good read from Jason AKA Physics Fan. A good read for any beginner trying to understand. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/luster-a-guide-for-beginners.58435/ You can also use these two photos below. This is a baggy but full mint state coin, notice it's over all brilliance, the luster/brilliance is seen even on the highest details of the coin. Compare it to the luster on this peace dollar. The luster on this one is seen next to the devices an in the areas that are protected by higher relief. The majority of the luster has been removed from this coin by wear and circulation.
Well, the LWCs keep finding me and are getting older. I’ll take that trend! I think change from a convenience store.
