First of all, Happy Mothers Day to all the mom's on CT. Hope you have a wonderful and blessed day! You know what to do next guess the grade of this CC Morgan. It is an in between die stage if you would like to guess the VAM. Some larger photos below.
That's a nice lustrous Morgan. Lot's of bag marks though. I'm getting gun shy guessing anymore. I posted a 1888 P last week or so that NGC put in a sample holder. Can't wait to get it and send off to ANACS for a crack out and grade. I'll go with 62. The reverse 64, obverse 61. Currently I've got a 1882 CC GSA in process for grading with the N clash, neck clash, and also a right wreath clash as well. Whatever you have may be the same VAM. I am terrible at identifying them.
Hey, Barney, thats always the battle with a grade. I think I gave enough luster in the photos, cause this coin is blazing.
For the Vam'rs, I am gonna try and get some markers on the coin. It is still up in the air, as to the actual VAM.
You have a lot going on there. Two wreath clashes, neck marker clash, clashed N, right wing blob of metal. Is the second 8 doubled? Also, is the outer ear or inner ear doubled? I can't really tell from the photos.
The entire date has minor doubling, Also there is minor doubling inside the ear and a small little blob, what looks like a die chip/doubling on the lower earlobe.
Interesting. I cross referenced your photos to Vam World. Your coin has a lot of die mischief going on in addition to 3A photos they reference. Does that mean your coin is one of the last struck for that die before they repolished them? Next stage is 3B and 3B doesn't exhibit the wildness yours does. It looks like Bob Ross added in a lot of trees and smiley clouds on your canvas. If you ever want to get rid of it, let me know.
I think it is in between a 3 and a 3A, what makes me think that is there is only one clashing event, compared to the 2 clashes seen on 3A. @messydesk
For VAM 3A, what matters is the partial 'n' clash in front of Liberty's neck that is in the specification. I assume this is visible on this coin, since ANACS said it was. The second clash is not as strong, out of registration with the first, and comes later. The dies are polished, giving us the VAM 3 between VAM 3A and 3B, then comes the VAM 3B clash.
I easily see it, but I'm on a laptop. I saw it right away, in your first photo. I am conditioned to looking for pickup points now that I know the major ones that don't need high powered magnification for those. I think many people using their phones for internet don't see all of the details that are available here either. Coin Talk has really good zooming capability.
Pickin, trying to nail down a specific VAM is frustrating for me. For example, I recently picked up a 1878P, 7TF R79. Cherry picking is fun when somethings fly under the radar. That in itself was a fun find, as it was not described as such. It was even better when I realized it had a 4th broken star. So I go to VAM World to narrow it down. There I discover there are 20 VAMS with the 4th broken star. Just kill me now.
