Wizard coin supply sells a rubber stamp with year, mint mark & grade. I want one but they are EXPENSIVE.
Wow, some people are so particular about this. I collect world coins. I put the country in upper left, denomination in upper right, year in lower left and if there's a note like that it's proof I put that in lower right. I use whatever kind of pen is sitting on the desk.
regarding labeling, isn't this discussion getting a little anal retentive? Mayube we need to get Q. David Bowers involved here. I would just label it the way satisfies you.
Seriously. What I want to know about a coin is: Country of origin Denomination Date Mint Variety (if known/applicable) Purchase price Where it was purchased Grade Any provenance (if applicable) Other notes (any problems, DMPL/PL, CAM, DCAM, etc) Most of that won't really fit on a 2x2, so I would rather use separate tags than write all that crap on a 2x2.
Really it all depends on you...there is no one way that is considered right. Don't let anyone tell you different. Mine is as follows: Example: Top Right corner: Germany 1902 - Top middle 1 Mark - Top right Lower Bottom Right: Silver ASW - Lower left bottom 0.900 - Bottom right 0.732 - Bottom left And so forth and so forth.
I use 2x2's, and only use the wonderful Flat-Clinch stapler to staple them. I also take out all the staples out of the box, before I use them, and then I spray-paint them with white, so they don't stand out as much when I staple the 2x2's...
I'm a black core, err staple guy myself. I spray my staples black, makes them stand out nicely against the white of the 2x2. I also use a gold paint pen to label the 2x2, gives that extra touch of elegance.
Use the new Paper Mate Ink Joy pens. They don't smear (at all!) and they come in a bunch of colors. Chris
You guys got it all wrong... On the front: top left corner: Day of the week I acquired it. Top right corner: Moon phase the day I acquired it. Bottom left corner: Completely un-qualifiable comments on coin, like "sweet!" or "gnarly!" etc. Bottom right corner: A brief synopsis of how successful my trash-talking this particular coin brought the price down. On the back: Comments on the overall impression I got from the seller (shifty eyes, bad vibes, clueless about coin, Hawaiian shirt, granny sweater, etc).
the next time I 2X2, I may bring in Ralph Steadman to the design the frame. During that time I will play White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.
Well, here is how some of us ancient coin collectors do it. Double sided tags to record info on both sides. See front and back on the pics below. Naturally, as your coins are modern you don't need to be as descriptive as us ancients folks, so maybe a single sided tag might do.
if all you have is a date, why even have a label on those? you can clearly make the date out on peace dollars. I have some of those slabs and i add the date (much smaller), but also grade, mintage, etc.
i put many of the things already mentioned on my 2x2s. I also add what the metal or alloy is, in an abbreviation on the front (low to middle right side). Sometimes this is hard to tell and im curious about it so i include it
