Arrived days ago, but I was out of town. First chance to post some images. What-cha-all think? Cameo?
Thought I completely cleaned the blasted lens/holder off. Would it help more if I removed the coin from the capsule? Ain't happenin' brothers..........
Why? The Liberty they used for the 2015 high relief gold coin made her look like she needed a roller derby outfit. The Mint has had a bumper crop of ugly designs in recent years. Leave this one alone IMHO.
They're not going to improve it. The design is 100 years old, and Weinman got it right the first time.
Hey it's only been 45 years since The Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress appeared. She doesn't have to be wrinkled and in a wheelchair. Guess, though, she is on Medicare and collecting Social Security....
That new design is horrid. I'm talking about a total revamp. Ahh I wish I was an artist. Alas, it's only stick figures for me.
Great photographs. I think she's fine as she is. Now if they changed the eagle on the reverse back to the one that is on the original half dollars.....That would be great! Keep the obverse change to the silver Liberty medal series.
The thing that reaches me is: just how many different finishes & mintmarks do we really need of the same coin? Burnished, Proof, Mint State, Reverse Proof, Enhanced Uncirculated, Satin Finished, Special Finish...on and on it goes ad nauseam. Instead of a new finish on so many of our coins it would be nice to launch a new coin altogether...why not a $5.00 coin for circulation (and in our Proof sets) with something beautiful on it? It wouldn't have to be huge and I believe the average person likes larger coins. People never stopped hoarding 1/2 dollars and at this time one never finds them "actively" in circulation (tho I see in some areas of the country they're available via banks having recently watched the JFK video yesterday). In my neck of the woods...never see um. I agree with Danmar 2 an Eagle as Beautiful and worthy of Miss Liberty on the Reverse of the current Silver Eagle would be wonderful. The Eagle on the reverse of the St Gaudens Double Eagle in flight has something to offer. Or the Eagle that appeared on the Reverse of the 2015 High Relief Liberty $100.00 gold coin...or some new Stately Eagle design. We managed unique creativity for the 1776-1976 Bicentennial coins...let's get creative again.
