I had a fun day with new acquisitions. This was one of them. I did not own a slabbed Peace Dollar prior to this one. After looking at all of the Peace Dollars the dealer had in stock, this one to me had the best eye appeal.
The obverse is a solid MS-65. There is something going on with the reverse (above tail feather and on the wing) which I believe hold it to an MS-64.
Nice catch, easy 65. I'll use the term "market acceptable," because I see hints (behind the neck, top of the hair) of a successful dip of a formerly nearly-black coin. Not so sure a TPG would let it off that easy.
Yeah, that little bit of black stuff doesn't bother me, either. You might do more damage to the eye appeal than good by attempting to remove it.
Well, it's about dang time you own a Peace dollar. Be careful, they're addictive. Nice photos. It strikes me as a 65. It's nice and lustrous with a pretty good strike. The water spot on the reverse is terribly common on this date and doesn't bother me.
And the reveal on this lovely lady... NGC MS-64. Frankly I could not understand how this got into a 64 holder. I compared it to other identical 1922 Peace Dollars in both NGC and PCGS plastic graded MS65 and to me, this one was easily on par with those. So I snagged it. $40.00 was a no brainer on this one.
I'm good Seriously though, of all the ms65s I examined lately, it seems as if the TPGs have loosened up on MS Peace Dollars some. Not really sure why, but, probably to tempt us to RE-submit
