The local news in the Seattle-Tacoma loves these kinds of stories, if you go that way. I'm glad you did this and now I'm going to suggest you do this with ancient coins - way more interesting! But I'm biased. Good luck and consider keeping the board updated with how this pans out.
If the guy is a known dealer, it might not be a bad idea to link this conversation to him in an email. Several forum members have provided varied avenues of redress in this case, none of which would be good for a person trying to make a living on coins. I honestly cannot fathom why he is blowing you off, but if I were him and you were not a priority before, you certainly would be after reading the repercussions found in this thread.
Burton gave me the name & contact info of an excellent coin dealer in the area. Maybe this contact will know something more about him. Yes, I will keep the forum posted.
That is a really kind thought. The students will not lose out and the coin collecting club will still happen - I will see to that even if this dealer bails. Just can't figure this guy/situation out. I appreciate everyone's input!
I have an update to this story. On Monday, I left a voice mail message for this dealer stating that I had to hear back from him that day or the school district was going to take the matter to the next level. I received an email from him two hours later in which he said that he thought he sent the package out, but realized after my voicemail message that he must not have. He sent the coins to my school via Priority Mail the next day, gave me the tracking information, and we received the coins yesterday afternoon. I had considered refusing delivery and requesting the refund instead, but my focus all along has been getting the coins to the students, which was the eventual outcome. The coins are as described, so that is a “plus”. I just wish the communication and follow-through had been a lot better that it was. I also want to say a huge thank you to Tony (bqcoins), who sent an amazing packet of foreign coins, foreign banknotes, ancient coins, and even some slabbed coins for the students. Tony – your generosity is absolutely terrific, and the students are going to love them!
Way to go Tony! OWW, it will be interesting to hear the students opinions and how they applied any study or further interest. I think your actions were in the proper spirit. Jim
I'm glad they got there all right, and I'm happy that the dealer came through for your kids in the end. I hope the kids have lots of fun learning and collecting.
I have known Tony aka BQcoins and have had several dealings with him over the years, all Top Notch I will add ! Tony you get one heck of that a boy from me. Outstanding act to go above and beyond ...... One Class Act bar none! Karma is going to get you.....Good Karma that is!
I'm glad that it worked out. Many years ago, I graduated with K through 12 certification and had often thought of starting such a club when I landed a job. After a few years of subbing, I gave up the teaching idea completely. I was an Industrial Arts guy. When I entered school they were screaming for IA guys, four years later we were no longer in demand. Opened my shop a couple years later. A school bus would drop off some kids everyday in front of my store. They would come flying in and we would play a game every day. I would fish a world coin out of the bin and they would have to tell me the country. When correct, they could keep the coin. Sometimes the looks of agony were priceless, as they really wanted that coin. Fast forward 30 years and one of the kids stops in my store (I had moved by then). "Do you remember me ?", he says......Of course I did, and he went on to tell me how much that little game had meant to him all those years ago..... You have to feed those kids ! Paul
