in my mind this is pretty much the perfect ancient coin. Great ancient wear, excellent portrait (with wear) and the most important parts of the legend very clear. I prefer coins like this more than anything uncirculated.. congrats - it’s great!

Thanks. My Otho and two aureii are both like this: worn but appealing (Grade F), with no major distractions. I do hope this Galba will go Ch F or VF when I submit it to NGC, but plain F would be OK, and seems more likely.

My minimum grade for my collections (both the Twelve Caesars and my primary Eclectic Hundred) is Fine, so I do have a fair number of coins that display some wear and I’m not hung up on everything being XF to Mint State- particularly the ancients. I don’t mind a middle-grade, worn coin, as long as the eye appeal for the grade is good.

    You mean its own thread?

In any case, if anyone wants more information about the coin, it is available here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces260584.html

There is also some more information (like condition (it says MBC+, which I suppose means it is somewhere between very fine and extremely fine) and it also mentions Spink, which should mean it was sold at one of their auctions before, but so far I haven't found any specifics about that) on my coin specifically available here: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=7857&lot=1033

Then maybe I will open a thread for it once the coin actually arrives.

This ancient coin (Macedonian Gold Stater of Alexander the Great (minted in Sardis circa 334-332 BCE)) finally arrived today:

It isn't my latest (I won it at the CoinsNB auction on March the 30th) ancient coin, but it is my favourite one, namely the Ancient Chinese State of Chu Gold Ying Yuan (minted sometime between 400 BCE and 220 BCE):

Wow, that is a beauty! I didn't even know there were ancient Chinese gold coins like that.
