I agree, of course, that the absence of evidence on the reverse rules out the cud. The irregular surface screams of corrosion suggesting acid. If the blob appears as raised metal, it suggests to me that it could be flux/solder.

It is curious that we have recently seen a wave of coins that our newer members seem bent on submitting. Of course, they are under no obligation to take the community’s advice but I wish they would show greater constraint for their own financial benefit. Seemingly, in an interest to cash in on a find to make money they spend money needlessly. Unfortunate, perhaps, but it is their money to spend. We can wish them luck just the same.

What is it with all these seasoned collectors shaming new collectors for asking questions and trying to learn? I have a new membership to ncg with account credit and am looking to send in my first coin but in doing so I am trying to find out as much as possible and what is and isn’t worth it. There’s ways to give your opinion without sounding condescending. Also I’m aware of the cost of grading thank you. I am a collector not a seller.

Again I’m not just dying to send this coin in for grading not how that’s what was taken from my post. Simply trying to gain information. Perhaps this site isn’t as beginner friendly as I though and should find my information else where.

Don’t feel bad. Just get to know us members. I enjoyed your questions and coin. Might be a stamp some have never seen

I think you will find that this site is friendlier than other similar sites in that members here are generally open to more commonly asked questions and have more patience. Cheech is right: stick around. My comment (Ed's?) was not specifically directed towards your question regarding grading. The question comes up regularly but in the last couple of months, the volume has been higher especially amongst our newer members. I think that you'll notice this to be the case after frequenting the site for a time.

The point is that folks of late move from not knowing what they have to getting a third-party grader involved within a sentence or two. Members here, recognizing the costs involved, have alarm bells going off. It seems premature. Understanding the excitement that comes with our hobby, hopes of a jackpot may thwart better judgement so folks here will intervene, dashing hopes. This can come off as abrasive even if this wasn't the intention.

That was not my intention buddy. I you feel that way then this is the very last time I will respond to any of your threads. I have helped hundreds of members over the past 11+ years and have received plenty of thanks from them. You need to check your attitude! Good luck.

    I'm done with you.

Copper does corrode and that doesn't have the typical diagnostics of a CUD
