Noted a woman unloading a mason jar at the neighborhood grocery store Coin Star. After her transaction she got her gift card and left, not checking the reject bin. Of course I slid right up & scooped out the contents. When I got home I put up my groceries and laid out my loot: $2.24 in U.S. coins and 2 foreign. The non-coinage was 1 machine screw, one small steel ring loop, a 'button' battery for some electronic device and a bent costume jewelry earring. $2.24 isn't much, but free is good. I put the foreigns in 2x2s, the rest of the $$ will go back into circulation. The two foreign coins were a 2008 Canadian 25 cent and a 1983 South Korean 100 Won. One quarter (ATB Ellis Island) was blackened. It is/was most likely a dryer coin. The rim and edges still show cladding. The reverse shows the features of the immigrant family's faces 'smoothed out', as well as the left side of the building. The face of the child and the mother shows just copper blobs. The only non zinc copper cents were a 1970 & a 1974.
I always thought that FREE was good, but others have said not always. I guess you did alright but screwed in the end.
Good spot, thanks for sharing! I timed my bank visit very well yesterday, when I got there the coin machine said it needed maintenance, I figured one of the bags was full (and I was right). The bank teller replaced the bag and the machine started running. She told me to continue adding coin, and I said I hadn't started yet. Turns out someone turned in almost $20 without taking the receipt. After looking around for whoever may have turned these in (without luck) the bank teller told me she isn't allowed to cash in the receipt for herself, and gave it to me. I never touched a single coin, but I got $18.17 from that CoinStar!
I always check out the coin star. It doesn't matter what is in there, I take it, lol. I just got a handful today at the local Acme grocery store and I threw it in my pocket and will check it out later. It's like a lotto ticket. You never know what you're going to get. I absolutely LOVE it when I get a handful of Euro coins in there. You don't want them, I'll take them! Found about $15 Euro in one. Couple of drinks in Spain for me!
How about a 1987 Singapore dime at a Walmart coinstar in Arizona. 27¢ US 1987 10¢ Singapore, it has a reeded edge so it would pass in a roll of dimes. KM-51 1985-1991 10 Cents Composition: Copper-Nickel Weight: 2.6 g
