It is not important, given it my thoughts, But (there is always a "But"), I disagree with your opinion and would use Churchillian prose to explain why, if it really mattered.

However, it is important (to me) to state that the originality of your piece is what sets it apart from the OP piece, inclusive of the weak strike that is often mistaken for a ho-hum piece.

Truth in opinion: I despise any piece that has been coin doctored, and I doublespitwithgooeycheeselikestuff at collectors/dealers that knowingly foist a coin doctored piece on others.

When a collector buys such a doctored piece...$50 or $100 or $200 or $700 blahblah, and willingly does so, and then opines in a manner that suggests the coin doctoring isn't, and could be blahblahblah, which is why it is perfectly acceptable, encourages coin doctors to continue their dishonesty.

Wow...seems I struck a nerve by liking my coin. The "work" done on this coin appears to be very amateurish and not intended to deceive, but more likely someone bored with a pocketknife back when this coin was fairly common. And the dealer was very forthcoming with the 'work' that had been done...heck, it's right on the label.

Apologies if I have sullied the hobby by liking it and paying money for it. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to get back to pushing nuns into traffic.

Sigh....my fault....not the slightest relation to striking a nerve. At all.

You like the coin. No harm no foul.

Your misconception of my thoughts is understood, and is due to my lack of clarity of my thoughts. Had you been aware of my personal position on the subject of coin doctors stated publicly over and over on the CT forums and many others for 20+ years, you might not have had to resort to derisive condescension masked as humor.

What is very clear, is...you consciously downplayed the coin doctoring as anything but, and continue to do so by now presenting an alternative theory of "non-damage" and support same by stating the dealer was forthcoming and it is right there on the label.

Why then, would you not have mentioned that in your OP remarks, instead of elaborate nonsense of what the TPG doesn't mean and then pursuing a Holmesian hunt for what it means.

Collectors that have not experienced your level of expertise are easily persuaded to overlook coindoctoring, when examples such as your image and your statements is reduced to a status of not really important and intimating a TPG opinion is suspect because you don't "see it" and don't know what the opinion on the Holder actually means.

Other than that, do whatever you want with your money and your Right to choose.

I will make one more response and then stop wasting my time on this. And I'm sorry for whatever derisive condescension you perceived was unintentional. Was it my nun comment? That was just me trying to humorously remind everyone that it's just a hobby and not worth getting worked up over. (And I'm pretty sure you're winning the condescension battle here!)

Now, what are you talking about that I am consciously downplaying the damage and pushing some false narrative? I have never once claimed "non-damage" and I am struggling to understand your accusations. In my original post I put 'details' in the title, specifically describe all of the damage, point out that the damage that was done to the coin reduced the value of the coin by over a factor of 2x. I also say that "I personally don't find this terribly distracting" and indicate that this was the only way I could afford this coin with this level of detail.

Then there was some discussion about what exactly code 98 means and what tooling and 'devices engraved' means. I will still claim that I believe what was done to this coin was not done in an attempt to increase the grade, but because it is outlining the shield, it received the designation it did.

Nowhere did I claim it wasn't important.

Nowhere did I claim it was not damaged.

Feel free to post as long a response as you would like. I am turning off notification to this thread.

    The end.

    Full stop.
