Not disagreeing with you a bit, but I find it odd (for lack of a better term) that eBay does not mention it anywhere in conjunction with contacting a member.
That probably has a lot more to do with their legal department than anything else. It allows them a lot more latitude if they cover such things with catch all phrases like - "or interfere with other user's listings;" - or in the Access and Itereference section the phrase - "interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the Sites or any activities conducted on the Sites;". By putting it in very broad terms they can then define "interference" pretty much however they please.
While I wish there were a way to contact the buyer I think it's also a privacy protection issue. Otherwise the buyer is vulnerable not only to the dishonest seller, but to every scamming dishonest 'non seller'. Just cuts down on the exposure I think.... imagine if everytime you bid on a certain 'coin' you started receiving hundreds of ebay messages trying to get you to buy 'their item' rather than the item on the auction ... no fees for listing, no time invested, just gobble up the potentials
I found where they do. Finding the rules on ebay can be quite difficult at times, but it can be done with enough patience. What they say is this - " Members are not permitted to email buyers in an open or completed transaction to warn them away from a seller or item. If you have a problem with a transaction, please use the feedback forum and review our Fraud Protection Program. " You can find that - HERE
I still do not understand why it is not with contacting members, but it definitely says just what you said it says. It is a shame eBay does not follow their part of the deal.
How ebay weasels out! This is why auctions like this actually end after getting bids. Consider that it's a holiday weekend over here so it gives them enough time to let it ride. I know it's a bit long but you may find it interesting. Considering posting this on a new thread. First is a copy of my complaint to ebay concerning this auction (amongst others by this seller) This was in the ebay reply - seems they shortened it. "Item number(s): 260133736355 $US US !44401! 111405 ?01 -01 260133735852 $US US !44401! 111405 ?01 -01 Message: These are just a few examples. The auctions I mention are for coins that DO NOT EXIST! Whether or not this person undersatnds coins (and I'm sure he does) these are in no way legitimate. Does his disclaimer make this alright as long as ebay collects a fee while some poor sap gets ripped off? Seems more and more like it every day." Here is ebays reply. "Dear eBay Member, Thank you for writing eBay in regard to suspicious coin listings. Because eBay does not employ or train its Trust & Safety Customer Support Representatives to be experts in the area of coins and currency, we rely on expert opinions from knowledgeable people as well as reliable third party organizations, such as the American Numismatic Association (ANA). Your report will be reviewed by a group of members that comprise a community watch group for coin auctions. They then confer amongst themselves and either agree or disagree that the listings are problematic. They then forward that information to the ANA for review. The ANA can then agree or disagree after careful consideration. If they agree, they then contact the seller directly. Sellers are then afforded 24 hours in which to revise or cancel the auctions. If they fail to do so, eBay must cancel the auction. Please be sure to check our Prohibited, Questionable & Infringing Items pages for information on eBay listing policies and guidelines: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/items-ov.html If you received an informational alert or warning, and you have additional questions, or you have another listing to report, please contact us at the following link: http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/select-RS.html In order for us to get to you in a timely manner, please do not respond to this email. If you reply to this message we will not receive your email. All communications should be sent to the link provided above. Again, thank you for your report. We appreciate your help in keeping eBay a safe and reputable forum to conduct business. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, eBay Customer Support" Isn't it great the way they kiss my ass and thank me? This email came from ebay on July 2nd. Hmmm..... six days should be more than enough time but like I said it's a holiday week. You can find IT on ebay. Just add two letters on the front and you'll get the real meaning.
Wow, this is new, years ago I used to e-mail buyers all of the time, I guess that is why I never get a response.
Make a power seller mad and see how fast a listing gets pulled. When I started selling the error Adams, I have a power seller email me and tell me he was turning me in for selling counterfeit coins. How did he know this? He drove from New Jersey to Michigan to buy some rolls, he bought some, didnt find any and thus, my coins were counterfeit. He had his toll booth tickets to prove he drove here into my backyard so to speak. He turned me into ebay with the above mentioned information and my listings were pulled that night. I did get a letter of "we are sorry but after further review ......" about a week later. I relisted the same coins with different verbage and they were in the new owners hands before ebay got back to me. Different verbage was. I took out the word Bi-Direction and used Running Two Ways. sorry for the tangent here. ebay is very open to what power sellers have to say. They keep after me to become one. Maybe I should just to have a voice.
Jim: That just goes to show how one-directional eBay is. Those who make money for them, they listen to, those who don't? What is the advantage of being a Power seller?
