Thank you very much. Some people say I do too much work but it's more like fun to me because I am learning and I examine every detail I can as well as keeping as best as I can accurate records.
Congrats on your progress!!! I have no idea what I might have picked up since last year in this regard but I'll post a denarius of Otho and Pertinax to start off with....a low grade example of the latter and a scarcer, worn, and over-priced left-facing denarius of the former:
Well, I do not have my coins online, rather they are pictured and stored on my PC. But, you really inspired me with your list... so I doctored it using your same format to make MY list... I had 103 Emperors, but recently I have been capturing several Empresses. Some of mine are not great, some of mine are not bad. I pretty much am collecting them to give to my Grandkids as I focus on The Roman Republic. We are VERY close on what we have... I HAVE in BLUE: 1 Constantine I 2 Trajan 3 Gordian III 4 Hadrian 5 Antoninus Pius 6 Augustus 7 Constantius II 8 Septimius Severus 9 Gallienus 10 Caracalla 11 Probus 12 Severus Alexander 13 Vespasian 14 Marcus Aurelius 15 Philip I 16 Anonymous 17 Domitian 18 Constantine II 19 Aurelian 20 Licinius I 21 Julia Domna 22 Nero 23 Diocletian 24 Commodus 25 Maximian 26 Claudius I 27 Faustina II 28 Postumus 29 Claudius II 30 Elagabalus 31 Constans I 32 Faustina I 33 Valens 34 Crispus 35 Valentinian I 36 Tiberius 37 Geta 38 Trajan Decius 39 Julian II 40 Maximinus I 41 Titus 42 Lucius Verus 43 Nerva 44 Theodosius I 45 Arcadius 46 Galerius 47 Valerian I 48 Gratian 49 Julia Mamaea 50 Philip II 51 Maximinus II 52 Constantius I 53 Salonina 54 Honorius 55 Trebonianus Gallus 56 Magnentius 57 Caligula 58 Victorinus 59 Otacilia Severa 60 Helena 61 Theodosius II 62 Lucilla 63 Tacitus 64 Tetricus I 65 Galba 66 Maxentius 67 Anastasius I 68 Vitellius 69 Valentinian II 70 Macrinus 71 Agrippa 72 Sabina 73 Volusian 74 Jovian 75 Carinus 76 Licinius II 77 Clodius Albinus 78 Julia Maesa 79 Carausius 80 Herennia Etruscilla 81 Crispina 82 Constantius Gallus 83 Numerian 84 Magnus Maximus 85 Aelius 86 Leo I 87 Severina 88 Carus 89 Tetricus II 90 Plautilla 91 Allectus 92 Germanicus 93 Quintillus 94 Florian 95 Pertinax 96 Pupienus 97 Herennius Etruscus 98 Delmatius 99 Galeria Valeria 100 Maximus Caesar 101 Zeno 102 Fausta 103 Procopius 104 Severus II 105 Decentius 106 Vetranio 107 Otho 108 Marcian 109 Diadumenian 110 Valerian II 111 Valentinian III 112 Aelia Flaccilla 113 Balbinus 114 Julia Soaemias 115 Julia Paula 116 Orbiana 117 Antonia 118 Aemilian 119 Hostilian 120 Vabalathus 121 Mariniana 122 Saloninus 123 Nero Claudius Drusus 124 Pescennius Niger 125 Theodora 126 Julia Titi 127 Drusus 128 Marius 129 Didius Julianus 130 Livia 131 Agrippina I 132 Eudoxia 133 Magnia Urbica 134 Hanniballianus 135 Paulina 136 Flavius Victor 137 Macrianus 138 Quietus 139 Aquilia Severa 140 Eugenius 141 Gordian II 142 Gordian I 143 Johannes 144 Romulus 145 Marciana 146 Didia Clara 147 Manlia Scantilla 148 Domitia 149 Constantine 150 Laelianus 151 Basiliscus 152 Eudocia 153 Anthemius 154 Julian I 155 Pulcheria 156 Plotina 157 Agrippina II 158 Galla Placidia 159 Nigrinian 160 Majorian 161 Domitius Domitianus 162 Libius Severus 163 Matidia 164 Alexander 165 Pacatian 166 Julius Nepos 167 Verina 168 Tranquillina (Provincial - Thrace) 169 Domitilla II 170 Jovinus 171 Caius Caesar 172 Martinian 173 Zenonis 174 Honoria 175 Nepotian 176 Britannicus 177 Clodius Macer 178 Domitilla I 179 Maximus 180 Leo II 181 Cornelia Supera 182 Licinia Eudoxia 183 Priscus Attalus 184 Uranius Antoninus 185 Dryantilla 186 Regalianus 187 Zenobia 188 Valerius Valens 189 Romulus Augustus 190 Constantius III 191 Petronius Maximus 192 Avitus 193 Jotapian 194 Annia Faustina 195 Euphemia 196 Glycerius 197 Ariadne 198 Constans II 199 Olybrius 4 200 Sebastianus 201 Proculus 202 Saturninus 203 Constantia 204 Silbannacus 205 Domitian II 206 Leontius I

Congrats Gil-galad you have some very nice coins there, I am sure you will eventually pick up most of the coins you are after, but remember the fun is trying. By the way I don't think I seen Vitellius 69AD in that list, or have I just missed it?
Titus as Caesar are generally cheaper than his Augustus ones, this is my Titus as Caesar coin, Victoria Navalis SC, T.CAES IMP PON TR P COS 11 CENS, struck Rome AD 72-73, 11.08g, 26mm.
Man, @Mikey Zee , I ALWAYS like the coins you post. Your collecting tastes are similar to mine. You do not KNOW how many times I had to buy one because of you!
I'm interstate at the moment away from home, but when i get back i will post the trays containing all my portraits. My rarest emperor is Uranius Antoninus. @Gil-galad from your "unlikely" list, given what you already have, I think getting some of these should be straight-forward. Pupienus and Balbinus can be had for a few hundred dollars. If you shop around, AE4s of Valentinian III and Johannes can be had for under $100 (but maybe you want a nice solidus?). Otho is affordable if you can live with a provincial from Antioch. Livia can be found at a reasonable price if you're happy with a Spanish provincial. For Gordian I and II, of course, you'd need to be comfortable spending a few grand for each. I don't prioritise imperial over provincial - i just want the most interesting coin I can afford for each ruler. I think provincials are fine for a portrait series - as long as it's a contemporary coin bearing the name and portrait of the ruler (btw I don't like attributions that give a name that cannot be found on the coin - in my opinion there are no coins of Aureolus or Pontius Pilate... Such an attribution is marketing to boost an otherwise unremarkable coin).
If it's as many as I have bought because of you (Republics), then I'm surprised we're still buddies LOL. Well, I'll stay out of this for a while and just see the others post...RE: that @Gil-galad noted in bold black ink that he's still missing.
I agree, Greg. But I still have a representative from each of them, "just to have" for the Historical reasons. And great write-up! Will help me chase the ones I am still looking for. @Gil-galad , you have several that I do not have. Would love to get pointers from you where I could find them to fill my slots. Great collection - cool fun. I have been "thumbing" through it. I am on your FB Ancients page too.
"in my opinion there are no coins of Aureolus or Pontius Pilate... Such an attribution is marketing to boost an otherwise unremarkable coin)." Aureolus did not strike coins in his own name because he was loyal to Postumus; but there is a series of coins from the Milan mint that many numismatists believe were struck by Aureolus in the name of Postumus. Here is an article -- http://www.forumancientcoins.com/Articles/Aureolus.htm
Yes, I know about that, but I don't buy it. Is a dime struck in the San Francisco mint in 2005 considered an Arnold Schwarzennegger dime? He was governor of the state containing that mint, wasn't he? A 50 pence coin struck in London in 2010 when Boris Johnson was mayor - can we call that the Boris Johnson 50 pence? There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in how we attribute coins - generally, i find if it doesn't follow the usual convention, there's a financial motive. Don't get me started on the optimistic Cleopatra VII attributions from the Paphos, Cyprus coinage. And to me, the coins attributed to Pontius Pilate should more properly be attributed to Tiberius, whose name actually appears on them. I want coins with names and portraits of people.
But it is the usual convention to say who coins were struck under...for instance the coins of Constantius II struck under Vetranio. By your standards, these would only be listed as Constantius II coinage. They should, however, be listed as being struck by Vetranio, in the name of Constantius II. No financial motive, just accuracy. Same as coins struck for Constantius II by Magnentius and Nepotian and the list could go on.
Hey Darryl - I've always been impressed by your single-minded focus. Great collection, keep up the good work!
I agree with this much. Emperors did strike coins at the mint they controlled in the name of their co-emperor. I would find the case for Aureolus attributions more convincing, if Postumus actually did strike coins for Aureolus in the mints he controlled. He did not, and there is no evidence Postumus recognised Aureolus as an emperor. Further, there's no evidence Aureolus was ever anything more than a local military commander. We see "AVG" but do not see "AVGG" on the so-called Aureolus coinage - which is what you'd expect if Aureolus and Postumus were co-emperors.
