Thank you for your kind words. If you like this time period, Rabun Taylor’s new book on ancient Naples is an excellent read.

Just for curiosity, why not published in you own publication Koinon ???

Good question! There’s a few reasons:

    1. The editor and his family visited the prior summer and in the course of socializing it was suggested that I submit an article about Acheloios I had been working on.

    2. It is good to have some publications outside of the journal I edit so my work isn’t considered too “incestuous”

    3. Provides room for bit of diversity for Koinon, which has featured 8 of my Acheloios essay

    4. The Swiss school has a great appreciation for Acheloios—my predecessor Hans Peter Isler is a Swiss archaeologist and I believe his student, also a fan of Acheloios, reviews for the journal, so I figured I could get some useful feedback.

    5. The last INC overview of literature (2022) included my work in the Sicily section but not the Italy section (for suspicious reasons IMO) and now it is in a venue that can’t be ignored :)
