http://www.tantaluscoins.com/coins/grid288.php A year later and I've managed to fill 10 more Roman Imperial ruler slots that brings my grid up to 53.7% of the entire whole which is 110 out of 205 total Roman Imperial rulers. I've also used some Roman Provincial coins to fill some of those really tough slots where I can't afford some coins. 43 Nerva 79 Carausius 80 Herennia Etruscilla 94 Florian 103 Procopis 105 Decentius 109 Diadumenian 116 Orbiana 119 Hostilian 120 Vabalathus This ERIC II (Encyclopedia of Roman Imperial Coins) rarity list is based on results from the book ERIC II written by Rasiel Suarez as well as sites that he is using as databases like CoinVac and Tantalus Online Coin Registry. Keep in mind that the coins he has access to is a vast variety but is still only a mere fraction of coins out there. The rarity list is based on total coins from a Roman Imperial ruler including all obverse and reverse types pooled into a total count. The list I'm using is for Roman Imperial coins but again, I am also counting some Roman Provincial coins because I can't afford some coins that are Roman Imperial. He has also made a Roman Provincial ruler list as well. Here is the total list of the rulers I have in bold blue, those that I have that are Roman Provincial will be indicated in a green provincial. The rulers that are a plain bold black are those that I don't have yet or may never obtain either way. Ex: Holding History Coins I realize this is a long post to sift through but I hope you read most of it to figure out what I'm doing. Just like last time I'd like to see you guys post Roman Imperial and Roman Provincial rulers which includes Emperors, Caesars, women, family, children and even a friend like Agrippa for example. Post any that you like but I would prefer to see rulers that I don't have. Help me celebrate, thank you!!
You have a great collection! It is a good thing to have a focus. Do not give up on Galba, I have seen (an ugly) one under $100.
I do have a Galba which is a pretty scarce Terraco mint as. GALBA. 68-69 AD. AE As. Spanish mint Tarraco, 9.1g, 29mm OBV: SER GALBA IMP AVGVSTVS, Laureate head left, globe at point of head portrait. REV: LIBERTAS PVBLICA S-C, Libertas standing left, holding pileus and sceptre. REF: RIC I 71
If you don't mind provincials or worn Galbas, look at this: $95 https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/pr...a_ad_6869_bil_tetradrachm/637704/Default.aspx I'm obviously not affiliated with that dealer and have no stake in the matter, but I thought I'd mention it anyway for mods. Just trying to help a fellow collector make his dreams come true at an affordable price.
That's a nice Galba low grade provincial for sure but since I have a Galba As, I'm not too interested in it right now. Thanks for finding it.
I really enjoy provincials a lot...I think I prefer them actually. As I reflect on my collection, most of my favorites are provincials. Also, way to keep at it - you'll get there!
Oh and here's a coin for your thread to compliment one of your highlights: Postumus, AD 260-269 AE “Double" Sestertius, 33mm, 24.9g, 12h; Colonia Agrippinensis or Treveri mint. Obv.: IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS P F AVG; Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev.: LAETITIA AVG (AVG in exergue); Galley left, four rowers and steersman
Now that's a nice Postumus double sestertius for sure. Love it!! Generally speaking, Roman Provincial coins are more artistic than Roman Imperial coins. Don't get me wrong, I love em but Imperial coins are by far more affordable over-all.
@Gil-galad - Wow, congrats on the great acquisitions! I am doing the same, kinda casually. I really focus on Roman Republic and the cities and states that interacted with them. Primarily BCE dates. I started out with a few Rulers. But kept accumulating them to fill in the slots of an album. I did not get any Empresses as the album did not cover them. I discovered this same list through Warren Esty's post, and began filling in some of the Empresses. I know that @Greg Heinrich is focusing his efforts in Ruler Portraits also. He has a great set too! I am over 100 now, not sure total amount as I just started getting the Empresses. Pretty fun. Here is my Johannes: RI Johannes 423-425 CE AE4 Nummus Victory RARE Obv-Rev.jpg Ex: @ValiantKnight
You did a lot of work on your list. More than I feel like expending. Your collection has sure come a long way from our early days, heh?
Sweet update, Gil-galad I'm sure that you're still way ahead of me ... but I'll have to eventually update my list and see where we stand (it is always fun to have some friendly coin competition, eh?) => it's awesome to see your new updates (you rock) Wow, Gil-galad and Bing ... we have been collecting/chatting for many years now, eh? (you dudes are like fricken coin-family!!) ... but "good" family ... not the usual uptight family-jerks Coin-on, my friends (it's a pleasure talking with you good ol' coin folks) Cheers, brothers
Here is a Phillip 11 coin that is affordable from Zeugma in Commagene, 29mm, Butcher 31c, SNG Copenhagen 35. countermark on obverse, I purchased this and a similar Phillip 1 for $75 US as a lot of two.
You got that right and I'm blaming you for it since you gave me my very first ancient coin that got me hooked forever!! lol
You can pick your friends, but not your family members. Haha. I'd rather pick coin friends any day of the year.
That is also impressive that you are up to 100, maybe more. I never seen your collection before so I don't know what you have but I look forward to seeing it. Warren Esty has a impressive collection as well and a very informative website as well as selling some decent coins on his other site. I've only seen a few coins from Greg Heinrich. Pretty decent so far.
