Okay Crew, I've been looking at my barbers and reading a few articles on grading the series recently and how it has changed in the last 10-15 years. So I'm offering two coins a 1903 and a 1905-O. Tell me what you think, and how you grade them. After a bit I'll let you know how they graded when I bought them and how I graded them.
1st one I would call xf details cleaned, and the second one I would call vg-10. The front looks okay for the grade, but the reverse is blurry, so I am only going on the obverse.
VF-30 and G-6. I feel the second coin doesn't qualify for a grade of Very Good because none of the letters in Liberty are visible in those pictures.
bq. Very nice looking coins the first coin is ex- fine 40 the 2nd coin from the pictures I would say vf-20 it is hard as you know to tell from pictures sometimes. I know they must look better in hand but they are nice looking. Bruce.
1903, XF Cleaned. 1905, G. ( I just can't see any of Liberty in it ) Both are nice coins. I like the solid rims! YA BUDDY!
Jim: look closely, there is a Liberty, perhaps enough to make a fine, but I subtracted for negative eye appeal (on the reverse).
All righty then, I purchased both of these as sliders. The 1903 the dealer called AU, I called it XF because as you can all see the headband is imcomplete. The 1905-o is a bit harder. It has a complete LITY and partial ber. I bought it as a VG-10. But reading my 6th ed ANA guide it could be F-12. A real quandry, but as I grade a bit on th conservative side I'm gonna stick with vg-10.
I don't know about the grade but like the coins :thumb: Zane - When did you become a Moderator - Congrats - I'm very happy for you . You and Steve are both great additions as Mods...
