Here's a great Coinworld article on the 1994 and 1997 Matte nickels and the dilema they pose for the Jefferson Nickel Collector! http://www.coinworld.com/news/071607/BW_0716.asp What goes through the minds of those at the mint that run these pograms?
Collectors assembling a com-plete collection of Jefferson 5-cent coins from will require two Matte Finish examples that wereonly available in special sets. Man. He types worse than I do. LOL
The managing editor of Coin World must have been out of the office when that article went to press. Bruce.
Question is: How many of each do you have?? I have one of each of the sets, as well as a 97-P Matte in my 20th century key date set. The 3-leg that I use for my avatar is also in that set.
I do not believe that unless you have the matte proof coins then you do not have a complete collection of Jefferson nickels . There are some who only collect Jefferson proofs and some that only collect business strike Jefferson nickels from 1938 to date, so for them that is there complete collection. And there are some that say you need all type I and type II 1938 to date the list can go on and on. I do not have the matte proofs and do not think I need them. Mike congratulation they are very nice examples of what in my opinion is a great series of coins the Jefferson nickel has always been my favorite coin to collect. Bruce.
Each individual collector is free to decide what constitutes a "complete set". Allowing a third party to define those parameters for you is, in my opinion, silly.
