so the answer to my original question is yes there are fakes out to fool you. my 3 fakes were dressed up to deceive. well the third and best looking of the 3 was listed as "proof ?" and didn't cost much less than a unc. the others sting with an ouch.
none were graded, all purchased on ebay. none were bought together. two form the same seller were rip offs (i know now) the other was a gamble but was cheap. so at least i was fooled by pictures. i would though, like to know how they were polished. imho done over seas like india, very good at watch dials there. luster was mentioned, none of my real deal proofs show any luster, rather a deep pool of mirrored of silver with no defects. the fakes do exhibit a surface reflection when compared to genuine coins but when compared side by side is only a shine. was trying to post a gif or video compro but faled
i went back a looked at all my raw proofs and no other non proof strikes were found. so i wont feel so bad, my record is 20 to the good and 3 your a sucker.
