It's a mixed bag. Good photos are tough to get. It's a gamble, but sort of makes it fun. There are some people who don't know what they are selling, take horrible photos, and scare off the smart collectors. I stay away from the coin dealers, and look for mom and pop one time sellers. Bargains are to be had, but there is a lot of risk with even them, it's a double edged sword. They think they have a mint state coin when it screams XF or cleaned. But occasionally, an estate seller comes through and has no idea the treasure they are selling.
Not so sure on that. Think of how newcomers here react when we tell them the value of their parking-lot treasures, or Granddad's collection of heavily circulated common-date wheat cents...
Yeah, but you veterans are just being honest. Pawn shops? Not so much. Not even close. No one here has a vested interest in taking advantage of anyone. Also, I like the sarcasm of some. I'm not one of them but it's fun to go back and forth with them. It livens up the debate which keeps things interesting.
I've got a little update on the situation with this 1921 dime. About a week ago, I sold the dime for $9.25 to one of my local coin shops, and it was definitely an awesome deal. Overall I'm glad to have more than quadrupled my money. I just wish I could do that about 100 times instead of once lol!
