Does this qualify as a medal?

American ANA Pittsburgh 2004 August Medallion

I ask this out if ignorance and curiosity. This company makes a complete line of Christmas ornaments identical in size and manufacture (repose') to this. Most commonly they are aluminum, but they also use bronze, pewter, silver, etc. If this qualifies as a medal, would not their line of ornaments also be "medals"?

I suppose using a broad definition it could be called a medal, but only because of the ANA markings on the back. That is assuming of course that the X-mas tree decorations you mention do not have the same markings.

Not sure which "markings" you are referring to. No, they do not say ANA. I cannot read what is over the touch mark (horse shoe). However, they are all marked "Wendell August", "hand made" and have the makers touch mark all be it different for each maker. Most of them have a year and many have "Grove City", and other notes i.e. "grove City PTO", "special Edition", etc.

The markings I am talking about are those on the reverse where it says - ANA 2004. That is what would set it apart from the ornaments - it was an official release by the ANA. Unless of course the ANA released a full set of the Christmas tree ornaments themselves. In that case it would be just that - an ornament.
