Just wondering if there are any friends from any of the above places that coin roll hunt. Do you do well or is it usually a bust?
Aloha from Waikiki. I do quite well in the cent rolls, but poorly with halves and dollars. Have found several rarities.
I live on St John Virgin Islands and have tried the roll hunt and have not had good luck. The banks here most new issue.
Hello from Nikiski Alaska. New to coin roll hunting but have found some nice cents. We also roll hunt nickels and quarters.
I'd especially be interested in hearing from CRH in Puerto Rico. I've heard many stories that a lot of the 2009 dated nickels and dimes from the Philadelphia mint went there.
It was real, Lon. I went to the bank and ordered $200 of halves, they filled $170 and gave me quarters for the other $30. I even got a 1941-s/horiz-s out of one of the rolls.
I did a bit of coin roll hunting from my time in Alaska in 2005. A lot of the rolls I was given were machine wrapped. One bank I went to asked why I wanted them. When I said for collecting I was told they have to pay to ship them in (possibly originating up from Washington?) and was refused. Anyway, what I found was about average for what I generally find elsewhere given the amount that I searched.
I have never done any coin roll hnting for halves. Just oredered my first penny box. The call it a penny bag here. I will let you know if it was worth the time.
