    Given the loosening of grading standards, this would probably retail for $1,000 these days. It's in an old MS-64 holder, but might make MS-65 today.

    Given the current price of gold, which is currently $2,269.30 an ounce, a 1 ounce K-rand is worth a lot more than $1,000.

    It's Thursday again! Lets see some more examples!
    I'll go first...

    One of my favorite coins in my collection. The finest known terminal die state 1798 S-148. While there are a lot of coins of the same die variety in nicer shape without the final die break on the lower bust, this is the finest one with that break.

    Here's a couple of SLQs at about that price point - 1921 25C AU53 NGC. NGC Census: (37/481). PCGS Population: (42/800). CDN: $900 Whsle. Bid for NGC/PCGS AU53. Mintage 1,916,000. My cost was $960 with buyers premium and a 1919-D AU53 NGC & CAC Green Bean, Mintage 1,944,000. My cost $1025.

    One of my favorites, a 1813 Provincias del Rio de la Plata 8 Reale from Argentina. Sorry for the terrible photos, I plan to send this off to grading and proper photos soon.
