Hope everyone's doing okay on this fine evening maybe you can help me I'm finding these cud errors on the rims of these nickels so there's a chip missing on the rim but then the card is like over the rim on the coin is that like a retained die chip thing I can't find where I found that definition a long time ago I'm just curious notice above the 4 and the D on the back thank you
Hey Willy! Doing fine thank you. What a disappointment though. Where's your cuds? I have mine... (see the difference?) Go to cudsoncoins.com to learn all about them.
Maybe i said it wrong sorry they're like chips that are missing from one spot and they're right next to it on the other spot in another spot like above the four and next to the D I have a ton of them I just picked that one
so I will explain so there's metal that's missing close to where those chips are located on the rim it's just nothing I guess I have better examples but no big deal I got bigger fish to fry buddy no worries thanks for looking though
This needs to be explained well. Cuds and Die Chips are NOT pieces that break off the Planchet. Never. It's when pieces of the actual die freaks off because of it becoming worn. When the die strikes the blank the metal from the planchet fills the void of the die. That's why it appears raised on the coin. It is NEVER added metal on the coin. Anything you see 'missing' on your coin was probably caused by circulation damage.
