The idea is to post a coin worth roughly $1,000. Or for you people across the lake that's about 800 quid or 915 euro. Let the games begin!
I'll go with this little gem. She would be worth four times that without the "X" scratched into the eagles chest.
It was found in the remnants box of a long time world coin dealer. He lets me look through all the left over coin and tokens that he gets with buying collections. He really had no idea which collection it came from or how long he had it. I did not know what it was when I purchased it. I liked and bought it because it had Abe on it. I did research on it, found out what it was and returned it to him. He had it conserved and slabbed and sold. Unexpectedly he gave me half of the sale price after slab cost. Truly a once in lifetime find. Sorry for being long winded and the late reply, and thanks for asking.
My avatar was the one that got away. I never saw a specimen like it. I’m glad I took a photo when I did because shortly after the LCS sold it. I should have made an offer. And I think the shop owner would have given me a great price. That’s a nice specimen!!
Here is one of my only "large" denomination gold coins, an 1887-S Eagle. It has a really nice luster in hand, its hard to capture in a photo.
The coin is a 2009 UK 50 pence commemorative celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanical Gardens, located at Kew, just outside London. Coin is a silver piedfort (double thick), graded PF69CA by NGC. Coin depicts the pagoda, which is in the gardens. A picture of the pagoda is below the coin. Cal
